With Storm Eowyn on its way, See our Top 7 Tips to prepare and keep you safe :
1. Please follow advice from Met รireann. We are looking at Storm Force 10 in parts !
2. Where possible, move items left in gardens that can easily be blown away and cause damage, like ladders or trampolines, inside, or ensure they are secure.
Have contact details of your home insurer to hand, along with other emergency contact numbers for your utility providers and the local authority.
3. Do not travel unless it's an absolute emergency.
4. Have your mobile phones charged fully so you can reach out to family, friends and vulnerable neighbours.
5. Stay inside and do not go outside during the storm. Flying debris is extremely dangerous !
6. Prepare this evening or tommorow morning for power outages. Heating and water supplies. Batteries for torches, as for heaters or alternative cooking facilities.
7. Check in on elderly neighbours tomorrow to make sure they are prepared and safe.
Lastly, Contact us as soon as possible, if you have sustained structural damage. Also, most Insurers will have 24-hour emergency helplines to ensure you get advice on what to do and arrange repairs as quickly as is possible.
TAKE PHOTOS OR VIDEO FOOTAGE OF DAMAGE ! - you will need this for your insurer.
If necessary, arrange temporary emergency repairs to stop any damage getting worse, but speak to us or your insurer first.
If your home is uninhabitable while repairs are being carried out your insurance will cover any alternative temporary accommodation you may need in line with your policy.
Commercial polices will cover damage to premises and stock. Business interruption cover will cover your loss of Gross Profit and any additional trading costs, such as hiring temporary alternative trading premises if necessary.
