How cool is Kellie Harrington!
Huge congratulations to the Olympic gold medalist.
A few years ago I was taking photographs for the Irish Athletic Boxing Association at Institute of Sport, High Performance Training Centre in Dublin and I included some impromptu portraits of the boxers.

And finally, Dervilla!

I have been playing Cello for many years, and in that time I performed for former President Mary McAleese and current President Micheal D. Higgins. I have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful and talented people on my travels and hope to meet more!

I have played in some fantastic places, from the Musikveirin (Golden Hall) in Vienna to representing Ireland in Turku, Finland. Recently, I toured with Fainne Oir around Ireland (INEC, Olympia, UL Concert Hall) to Broadway in New York and played/conducted in the Irish Consulate in New York to Gaelic Park in the Bronx.

I can't wait to play with three of my closest friends and see what this new venture will bring our way!

It's a strange thing but it is really true that people often stand or sit by things that are the same colour or pattern as something they're wearing - I once saw a person drive around an almost empty car park to park their red car by a red pen lying on the ground.

Today I was in town when I saw this young man with blue hair by a wall with paint on in the spit-same shade of blue.

I asked him if I could take his photograph and he said yes so I made an impromptu street portrait.

I'm pleased that I'll be taking photographs for Claremorris Musical Society again this year for their production 'Little Shop of Horrors' at Claremorris Town Hall from the 29th of January to the 1st of February.
CMS always put on a world class show with brilliant acting and music.
At last year's 'BIG' I popped backstage during the interval and took some quick portraits of some of the cast.

I was tootling around town on Christmas eve enjoying the Christmassy atmosphere on my day off. I noticed that Main Street Castlebar was full of all kinds of different faces - different to a usual weekend. There were people who were home for Christmas and people from out of town who'd come in to do shopping.
I decided to set myself a little project - to photograph some of the people over the course of one hour.
It was a very enjoyable hour for a (mainly) portrait photographer on her day off.
Here's one of the impromptu portraits I made.

This evening I was at the opening of Mayo on Ice and there’s a groovy new ride called ‘Altitude’.

I thought it would look more dramatic with a slow shutter speed to blur the arms of the thing into streaks of light. I didn’t have a tripod with me so I just tried my best to keep the camera still while the shutter was open and I’m very pleased with the result ‘cause it was tricky to do.
It’s a huge thing that towers over the tall trees on the Mall and I think it looks a bit like a huge alien spaceship over Castlebar.

The world premiere of Kathy Fahey’s music and dance production Fáinne Óir at the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar. Photo: Alison Laredo

Fáinne Óir is a world-class production by composer Kathy Fahey and was brilliantly performed by Ciara Sexton and her dancers with Mayo Concert Orchestra and vocals by VoxFusion.
Paintings by Padraig McCaul really add to the atmosphere of the emotional show as does the narration by Sarah Lafferty.

After the premiere in Castlebar the show went to New York where it was a big hit on Broadway.

It's all round brilliant and you'll be hearing a lot more about Fáinne Óir in the future.

I was taking photographs at the rehearsal of Kathy Fahey's new musical production and listening to the music at the same time.

I'm not a musician myself but it is fascinating to me that people can create and play music that tells a story and can cause a real emotional response in the listener.

Fáinne Óir is a music and dance experience set in the time of the famine and you can feel the sadness in the music......... and it's quite wonderful.

Last Christmas I was taking photographs of the Castlebar Gospel Choir when I noticed quick snap that Director Kathy Fahey was making an 'O' sound with her mouth and the pipes of the church organ behind Kathy looked like a string of 'O''s leaving Kathy's mouth.....ooooooooo so I took a photograph
