BE MIND FIT
This Men’s Health Week, today’s theme is Be Mind Fit — a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and it needs regular attention and care.
Being “mind fit” is about staying mentally active, building resilience and taking steps to support your emotional wellbeing. Just like physical fitness, it requires consistent effort and small daily habits.
For many men, mental health can often be overlooked or pushed aside. However, staying mentally active can improve focus, boost mood and help manage stress more effectively — both at work and in everyday life.
Here are some practical ways to build and maintain mental fitness:
✅ Stay mentally active by learning new skills, solving problems or challenging your thinking
✅ Keep connected with friends, family or colleagues — strong social connections support wellbeing
✅ Take time to switch off, rest and recharge, especially during busy or stressful periods
✅ Be aware of stress levels and take steps to manage them early
✅ Talk about how you’re feeling — reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness
There are a range of supports available to help men prioritise their mental health. healthpromotion.ie provides accessible information on mental wellbeing, stress management and building healthy habits - for example, the HSE's "Balancing Stress" programme is a free online programme to manage stress, worry, anxiety, low mood and relationship difficulties.
Looking after your mental wellbeing is not something to leave until there is a problem — it is an essential part of overall health.
This Men’s Health Week, take a proactive approach. Stay connected, stay active and be mind fit.
