Top 5 job interview tips
Being prepared for that all important interview will ensure that you are putting your best foot forward and even more importantly will allow you to leave a lasting impression of you in the interviewers mind:
1. Conduct your research
Research the company you about to be interviewed by, do your homework. Know the products this company makes or what services it provides. Check out the company’s website and read about the company’s culture. Get a flavour for the company so that you can demonstrate that you are indeed interested in being an employee.
2. Practice your answers
Even though there is no set format that every interview will follow, there are some questions that you can almost guarantee will crop up. You should be prepared to answer questions about skills and work experiences, personal strengths and weaknesses, achievements, as well as being able to explain why you would be the best person for the job.
3. Look the part
It is important that you dress appropriately for the role you are applying for. It is a known fact that employers will make a judgement on you before you have even sit down to interview. Take the time to plan what you are going to wear. Make sure your shoes are polished, your clothes fit correctly and that your accessories are subtle.
4. Stay calm
Give yourself plenty time to get to your destination, be prepared for any unexpected delays. Good preparation is the key to staying calm and in control. It is a good idea to get ready the night before and have everything you need to take with you. Remember to smile, speak clearly, and if necessary ask the interview to repeat the question. Being nervous is allowed and expected!
5. Ask questions
You will be asked if you have questions for your interviewer and it is important to have prepared at least 3 questions, this demonstrate your interest in the position. Your questions should ones which will give you more information about the job and delving more in to the into the culture and goals of the company.
