I am almost finished a transcribing project that I’ve been working on since the beginning of the summer. I learned a lot about a subject I know nothing about and how resilient human beings can be in their everyday lives. this was one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve worked on and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.

 I just finished working on a really interesting project about women in rural business and agriculture. There are so many talented people in our wee country struggling to make a living, overcoming lots of obstacles and working as hard as they can. It was a good reminder for me to think more about shopping local and buying from people who care about the things they produce. I’m really grateful when people still choose a human like me rather than AI to transcribe their audio so I need to think about choosing real humans and other businesses and not always the faceless Online option.

If you’re looking for advice about how to market your business, do social media and keep your customers up-to-date definitely don’t ask me! Has it really been that long?
I have availability now for the next few weeks if any researchers need transcription were completed.

I was very surprised to get a phone call today from a person who was my very first customer back in 2016. Back then I was looking for jobs but had no real plan.

I sent a very informal email to colleges and universities all around Ireland telling them that I offered transcription services.

I didn’t have a proper email address.

I didn’t have a business or a business plan. I didn’t even though if that’s what I wanted to do.

To be honest I hadn’t a clue and maybe I still don’t today but it’s working and I’m still here :-)
I am looking forward to working with this person again in the New Year and really appreciate their loyalty .

Most of the interviews I am transcribing these days have been recorded in a café. It automatically makes me want to drink coffee. This might not end well 😂☕️

Clearly I’m not very good at updating this page.
I’ve been working on a few different things in the last few months. I can’t say I’ve been massively busy but there was the distraction of an amazing trip to Nepal to Everest Base Camp and it was hard to get back to work after that.
My busiest time is usually between September and Christmas so if researchers are planning on any academic work in that timeframe it’s good to start organising transcription now. Feel free to contact me if it’s something I can help with.

At the beginning of February I bought an essential oils HomeKit from doTERRA and became a member.

It is something I’ve been interested in for awhile but never really used oils regularly. There is lots to learn and I’m not going to start saying these are the best things ever just yet but I’ve been using different combinations in the diffuser during the last few weeks and it definitely helps my productivity! I can stay at the computer in my home office for longer and have better concentration. When I get distracted and think about getting up to make more tea the smell of the oil distracts me again and I stay there and do some more work.
Why not put a couple of drops of your favourite smells in a diffuser if you have one and see if it helps during hours of sitting in front of the computer. It can’t do you any harm anyway.

Luckily my work isn’t as awful as my updates to this page. Thankfully I still have customers old and new in 2022. I am very grateful for them all.
