Last Saturday was Sarcoma Cancer Ireland’s 5th Annual Patient Information Day.

For attendees, it was a day filled with expert talks, practical information, meaningful conversations, and connection.

For me, it also meant seeing one of the amazing projects I’m involved in finally come to life after weeks of quietly taking shape behind the scenes.

From the early planning meetings to coordinating logistics, liaising with the venue, creating event graphics, managing registrations, preparing presentation slides, sending follow-up messages, and taking care of the small details that help everything run smoothly on the day… it’s always incredibly rewarding to see it all come together.

Successful events aren’t created by one big moment. They’re built through many small moments:
- A clear event page.
- A helpful reminder.
- A warm welcome.
- A presentation that runs smoothly.
- Someone being there to answer a last-minute question.
- A follow-up that helps people stay connected.

These are often the things people don’t see, but they’re the things that make an experience feel thoughtful, supportive, and memorable.

I’m incredibly thankful to have been part of this project and to work alongside such a passionate, purpose-driven small team at Sarcoma Cancer Ireland. I’m also so grateful to the amazing Board. You bring so much energy, warmth, and dedication, and you’re an absolute pleasure to work with.Thank you for trusting me to support the incredible work you do and for allowing me to play a small part in making the journey a little more manageable for everyone involved.

Every event is different, but it’s always a privilege to help organisations bring their communities together.

Helping things happen... without anyone really noticing... That’s one of my favourite parts of my job.
- The content is ready.
- The newsletter goes out.
- The event runs smoothly.
- The graphics are ready.
- The emails are scheduled.
- And the little last-minute problems get solved before they become actual problems.

Most of that work happens quietly, behind the scenes. So receiving feedback like this means a lot. 💛

Of course, I’m happy to tick things off a to-do list. But what I enjoy even more is asking:
“Could we make this easier?”
“Could this process be simpler?”
“What if we tried it this way instead?”..and to find the best solutions for the questions.

Supporting charities and membership organisations isn’t just about getting things done. It’s about helping the people who are helping others.
It’s about giving busy teams more time to focus on their members, volunteers and the communities they serve.

Thank you for such kind words and for trusting me to be part of the journey. It really means a lot. 💛

When people think about business events, they usually see the meeting, the speakers and the conversations.
What they don’t always see is everything happening behind the scenes to make it all work.
From registrations and communications to Canva graphics, event logistics and member engagement, successful events take a team effort.
And if this is not enough, with Lillipad on the rise, we need to embrace new technology without losing the human connection that makes our communities special?

When people hear Canva, they often think: "Oh, that's for social media graphics."
Yes. But also... not really. 😄

The charities, memberships and community organisations I work with use Canva for much more than Instagram posts.

For example:
- Event presentations and speaker slides
- AGM documents and member reports
- Fundraising campaign graphics
- Volunteer handbooks
- Training materials
- Event signage and roll-up banners
- Social media content
- Email newsletter graphics
- Landing pages and simple websites
- Impact reports
- Infographics
- Certificates
- Member welcome packs
- Event programmes
- Videos and animations
- QR code posters
- Digital downloads and resources

And a few less obvious ones:
* Interactive whiteboards for workshops
* Internal team planning/brainstorming boards
* Branded templates volunteers can use themselves
* Event photo frames and selfie stations
* AI-generated images when the perfect photo doesn't exist
* Quick mockups for sponsorship proposals
* Resource libraries for members
* Email signatures
* Interactive quizzes
…and many more.

In the recent years Canva has become one of the most versatile tools in many organisations' communication toolkit.
Which is probably why I took the ‘Canva Pro for Nonprofits’ course during the weekend. Even though I use the platform every day, I managed to pick up a few new ideas, tricks and shortcuts along the way.

Because the day I think I know everything about Canva is probably the day Canva launches another 20 features 😄 so it is a never ending story.

As someone who works with nonprofits and spends a lot of time in Canva, today's Canva Nonprofits virtual event was an easy "yes" in my calendar. 😄

There were some interesting discussions about the future of AI, including ethical considerations, environmental impact, and how organisations can use these tools responsibly.

But what I enjoyed most was the practical side. The session focused on simple ways nonprofits can use Canva AI to save time and reduce some of the day-to-day workload. And that's the part I find interesting. Not because I think AI should do everything. Quite the opposite.

The charities, memberships and community organisations I work with are built on people, relationships and trust. Those things can't be automated.
But when I bring AI into our work, it can help draft a first version, summarise notes, resize content, and speed up repetitive tasks. In return, it gives busy teams something they often don't have enough of:
TIME.

Time to talk to members, engage with volunteers, support beneficiaries and focus on the human side of their work.

For me, that's where tools like Canva AI and automations are most valuable. Not replacing people, but freeing them up to do the things only people can do.

That said, I think we also need to be careful. AI is a tool, not a personality.
The goal isn't to sound like everyone else or create visuals that look exactly the same as the other hundred posts in your feed.

Your organisation, your community and your story are unique. Your content should reflect that too.

Lately, I've noticed more and more AI-generated visuals that all seem to blend into one another. After the 3rd identical image, people getting frustrated (or is that just me?) and scrolling to the next post. (But that's probably a conversation for another post on another day 😄)

So the real magic happens when you combine technology with your own voice, experience and creativity.

And a little confession: the graphic for this post wasn't created my usual way. I used Canva AI to test a few of the tools and ideas that were shared during today's event.

The most important person at your event isn't the keynote speaker.

It's the person attending for the very first time. The person who doesn't know anyone yet. The person wondering:
"Am I in the right room?"
"Can I sit here?"
"Will anyone talk to me?"
"Was it worth signing up?"

Often, we focus so much of our attention on speakers, agendas, presentations and logistics. But first-time attendees are often the people who decide the future of your community.

They're the ones who decide:
- Will I come back next time?
- Do I want to become a member?
- Is this organisation relevant to me?
- Do I feel welcome here?
- Is this a community I want to be part of?

And for charities, there may be even bigger questions:
- Would I volunteer here?
- Would I donate?
- Do I trust this organisation enough to stay connected?

These decisions often happen long before the keynote speaker takes the stage. They happen during signing up, or even in the welcome email.
At the registration desk or over a cup of coffee and a conversation with another attendee.

The best events don't just deliver information. They help people feel like they belong. That's something we should always keep in mind when supporting membership organisations, charities and community events behind the scenes.

People may come for the programme, but they return for the experience. 💛

15th May will be International Virtual Assistant Day 💛…and it got me thinking.

Instead of just posting about what I do as a VA, I decided to challenge myself a little this month. Nothing big. Nothing complicated.

Just showing up here more. Posting more. Being a bit more present.

Sounds simple… but if I’m honest, it’s not always that easy.
I spend a lot of time creating content for my clients: planning, designing, helping them stay consistent, and somehow my own feed is always the one that gets pushed to the side.

We even have a saying in Hungarian for this… “when the hangman is being hanged…” (when the person who’s supposed to be doing the thing… avoids doing the thing 🙃)

To be fair, there was a reason for it. Over the past year, I focused more on my email list instead. (And yes… I do have one 😉 link in the BIO if you’re curious and want to sign up.)

But now I’m at that point where I’m wondering…
what would happen if I showed up here more consistently for a month?
What kind of conversations would start?
Who would I meet?

So this is my little May experiment.

During the weekend: Canva = Entertainment

This weekend’s project?
My daughter’s birthday party invitation 🎉

We designed it together, which of course meant every classmate had to be included in some way… so they can all recognise themselves, obviously.
Creative direction by an almost 8-year-old = very specific requirements 😂
(Not that different from client work…😄)
