Great outcome for Lucan Village. Majority of development plan and investment will go ahead but no parking spaces will be lost. Huge thanks to local councillors for all their time and energy and ultimately their votes.

We learned yesterday that SDCC intend to bring their revised plan directly to a vote of the entire SDCC Chamber on Monday 11th April. This is a complete deviation from the normal process and gives the 40 councillors little of no time to digest the CEO's 27-page report. Today (5pm) is the deadline for submissions for the Part 8 for Proposed Works at Lucan Village Green and Main Street. If you haven't already made your submission, please do so now!

We would like to sincerely thank all the businesses and health care providers in the village, who came together in a joint effort to object to this plan in its current form. We would also like to thank our many loyal customers, patients, clients, families and friends who supported us every step along the way.

Finally, we just want to state again that the LVBSG does not oppose improvements to Lucan Village. We simply oppose the loss of any parking spaces in the village, without the provision of genuine additional like-for-like alternatives. We believe the village is currently undersupplied with parking spaces and needs more spaces, not fewer. We hope to contribute constructively to any revisions to the current plan, or any new plan that may be drawn up, if given the opportunity to do so.

A Lucan GP has objected to plans to make the village a destination town, which could see the removal of half the village's parking spaces.

Interesting to see that Lucan Planning Council, in their letter published in this week's Lucan Newsletter, are broadly in agreement with local traders. They have advised local residents to reject the plan by submitting an objection to SDCC. Hopefully Local Councillors are listening.

One quote stands out

"Unlike many other villages around the country, Lucan is now a thriving and lively village with a variety of shops and services. Removal of car parking spaces could be a disaster resulting in closure of essential services."
