Essential Requirements
All applicants must have on or before the closing date:
Honours Degree (minimum Level 8 on the NFQ) in a science, engineering, health/medical or occupational safety health discipline
and
Two years practical experience working in industry or consultancy in a science, engineering, health/medical or occupational safety and health role
and
Full driving licence that permits you to drive in Ireland
Key Responsibilities
The role of an inspector can cover a range of activities under the Authority's mandates in Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, Chemical Safety, Occupational Hygiene and the Market Surveillance of chemical or industrial products including field-based inspection and/or policy development. Initial duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Contributing to the development and achievement of the strategic goals of the Authority.
Inspecting workplaces and work processes to assess compliance with relevant legislative duties or standards across a broad range of hazards and sectors.
Conducting investigations into serious non–fatal work safety and/or health related incidents.
Conducting investigations into fatal accidents, including responding immediately to the scene, commencing an investigation, securing evidence, liaising with emergency response personnel, witnesses and members of bereaved families.
Preparing investigation files up to and including prosecution, preparing expert witness statements, presenting evidence in criminal proceedings and the coroner’s court.
Ensuring compliance with legislation including undertaking enforcement action and the appropriate use of powers.
Developing and implementing guidance, legislation and codes of practice.
Representing the Authority at meetings with stakeholders and representative bodies.
Giving advice, guidance and support to employers, employees and businesses including the delivery of presentations.
Assessing technical/scientific reports and land use planning applications.
Preparing technical/scientific reports and position papers on various administrative and legislative issues (national and European).
Representing the Authority at European and International technical, scientific and policy committees.
Working as part of a team and with other regulatory agencies and government departments.
Undertaking operational duties to support the Authority and in particular participating in cross-divisional projects as required.
Other duties as may be assigned in accordance with the operational needs of the Authority
