When dealing with customers, you shouldn't only focus on what they've come to purchase from you at that point in time, you must also endeavour to meet a need they didn't know they had.

To achieve this, asking open ended questions, being friendly and going above and beyond the customers request is very important.

Empathy, simply put, is putting yourself in someone else's shoes and imagine how they'd feel.

There's a saying that goes "treat people the way you want them to treat you". A lot of people quote this but how many genuinely live by it?

When attending to customers, it is very important to empathise with them. This will help you treat them with kindness even if they are being a little difficult. Some of them may have something bothering them and unfortunately, transfer aggression to you. It doesn't make them bad, they are just having a bad day.

You'll be amazed that when you overlook their attitude and deal with them nicely, their mood may improve and you could even get an apology. 😊😊

There are many benefits of providing good customer service in a business.

Our favourite is: Customer Satisfaction. Customer satisfaction will keep the customer coming back until they become a loyal customer. They will give good reviews and even recommend your business to others.

Finally having satisfied customers will give your business a good reputation and increase your revenue.

So providing excellent customer service in your business is no longer a recommendation, it is a necessity.

Story time, I know we all like gist!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

So a few years ago, I was travelling and I booked an airline which I've never flown before. (Side-note: never forget to read reviews before making a purchase!!)

First flight was delayed by over an hour! In flight, we had to repeat a request to the flight attendants multiple times before they actually responded to us.

When we got to the country of transit(we had to get a transit visa), the staffs at the airport was extremely rude and unhelpful. They couldn't be bothered to help clarify what we needed to do or where we needed to go to get the visa sorted and they were just passing us from one person to another. My friend and I were livid at this point. We eventually got sorted.

Onto the second leg of the journey and the flight was a little delayed AGAIN, but we let it pass. We just couldn't wait to reach out destination.

Fast forward to coming back home, our flight was delayed for over 2 hours!!! At this point, I started crying because I had planned to get home the following morning, rest a bit and then pick my daughter from creche in the evening but obviously that wasn't going to happen!

To make matters worse, the airline did nothing to compensate us for the stress and wasted time.

Ever since then, I've vowed never to fly the airline again. Not only that, I've told everyone I know not to either based on my first and only experience with them.

You see now that first impression is so important? Have you experienced anything like this before? Please share with us 😊😊

You only get one chance to make a first impression. If the first impression is bad and your customer is not satisfied, this is the start of a ripple effect.

They definitely won't come back to patronise you and they will tell their friends, families and relations not to patronise you.

So to avoid this, you need to get it right with the service you provide from the onset. Make your first impression count and you will succeed in turning a potential customer to a loyal one.
