Speaking of matching an existing flooring. Sometimes you’re handed alternatives to hardwood flooring, like laminate or in this case lino individual strips. This stairs is pine and doesn’t look too out of place from the flooring.

A large part of what I do these days is match a new pre finished floor to a raw stairs. It’s a lot more difficult than one would imagine. Sometimes it can take a couple of days to get a match, but when you’ve achieved it, it can look rather splendid.

Nothing like bringing a painted newel post and handrail back to its former glory. It’s gone from a dark varnish to white, then to an olive green and back to white. It takes quite a bit of effort to strip the paint off but I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s worth it.

Bringing in the old with the new. I stripped and sanded this antique Scott’s pine table, polished the base black and white washed the table top. Now the table and chairs go together seamlessly giving it a modern look.

Ah, the flower vase problem that a lot of people seem to have. This table sits about 14. The 2 centre leaves had to be sanded back and polished to match the rest of the table. The rest of the table required freshening up for continuity.

The orangey oak look is out of fashion at the moment and people either want dark or a more natural oak look. This stairs I painted and used a new product to keep the natural look. Think I’ll be using it quite a bit. Made by Bective Joinery

A lot of the time I get handed a floor board to match a stairs up to. Other times I get a laminate floor board, which is very difficult as you’re matching real timber to a faux one. Thankfully I got this one spot on because this stairs deserved to sit well with its laminate cousin! Made by Bective Joinery
