Charity Fashion Show in aid of Cancer Research. Had one of the best experiences guiding 9 wonderful ladies, to strut their stuff on the red carpet in 'Sea Point Restaurant' Monkstown, wearing clothes from the fabulous 'Soul Boutique' Glasthule then guests and models were serenaded by our well known singer Brian Kennedy. The sun shone brightly, as you can see from the photos. A very SPECIAL day was had by all.

Why not give yourself a break from black this Autumn/Winter and try grey, it is an excellent neutral colour to compliment nearly all the colours for this season. It can also be a lot kinder to your colouring especially in the middle of winter when you are at your palest. A good guideline is the Pantone website. www.pantone.co.uk . Enjoy mixing and matching your colours this season, there's lots of choice out there, so go on and be brave.

OUCH. Do I have to look at my Autumn Wardrobe????

Whether we like it or not autumn is here but we are hanging unto
the memories of the best summer we have experienced in many years and who would blame us because it gave us the chance to wear the summer clothes that have hung idly in our wardrobes for a long time, nevertheless it’s the perfect time right now to get our Autumn wardrobe into some kind of order.

• Before you start have a look at the Next or Marks/Spencer’s website, they will give you strong guidelines of the colours and designs that are starting to appear on the high street. Next is especially good at giving you clear pictures of each garment or outfit. Also have a look at a site called www.style.com for the designer end of the market. If you look at all of the above sites you will see how the designer end eventually filters into the high street.
• If you have any LINK PIECES, (you love it, but you can’t wear it because you don’t have the right things to go with it) get them out and bring these garments with you when you go shopping.
• If your basics are starting to look worn, vests, t-shirts, leggings, cardigans, (the cement of your wardrobe) throw them out and replace them FIRST.
• Keep in mind YOUR lifestyle needs, at all times.
• Purchase a stack of seam-free knickers in n**e, blacks and whites, truly and essential if you wear jeans and tailored trousers.
• Gosh I know the above is boring, but you know, it will be worth it, because, YOUR WORTH IT.

Zipping up that little dress.

Picture this, your feeling great after a long lingering bath, hands and toes painted perfectly, make-up looks great, hair spot on, it’s all looking good. You pull on your new dress slide your arms into the sleeves, slip feet into your new killer heels and go to zip up, but there is no one around to help and so the wriggling, twisting, gritting teeth and groaning starts. Your arms come at it from every angle, you start to perspire and you’re getting more agitated by the second.
I have found a great new tool called ‘ZipHer’ they say it is the solution for self-reliant women of all ages.

It cost approx €15 to €20 and will make a great little gift.

Link clasp bracelets are the one piece of accessory that can be difficult to put on your wrist on your own. So many women have bracelets like this and they leave them sitting on their dressing table gathering dust as they neither have nobody to help them at the time or they can’t find their glasses. I have found another great gadget and hope it will be of help, it is a solution for self-reliant women of all ages.
It’s called ‘Buddy Bracelet’ and comes in at approx €7 to €8. You will find it on Amazon. Makes a great little gift.

CHOOSING SUNGLASSES.

Today there is so much to choose from and they can make any outfit look chic, elegant and glamorous, but before we look at the shape and style, protection should be our first criteria. There are many myths regarding protection so hopefully these guidelines will be of help.

• The most important aspect is choosing sunglasses with 100% ultraviolet (UV) protection.
• You don’t have to spend much as there isn’t a direct relationship between price and protection you can spend €20 on 100% UV or €200, there is no difference.
• Polarized doesn’t mean it blocks UV rays; it just cuts down on glare.
• UV protection is just a special coating put on lenses regardless of whether they are pink, blue, green etc.
• Some manufacturers’ labels say UV absorption up to 400nm this is the same thing as 100%.

Bikinis. Sarongs. Kaftans.

For some of us even thinking about wearing a bikini brings us out
in a rash. Drawing any attention to ourselves on the beach or beside the pool can make us feel very uncomfortable almost as if we were naked. Then we go on our holidays and as my friend says “The sights you see when you haven’t got your gun”.

There are all shapes and sizes, from busts that defy gravity (helped) to ones that, it’s a miracle they stay inside their bikini tops. From alabaster white to withered prune and from cellulite to burnt, then you take a look at yourself and realise you don’t look that bad after all and wonder why you didn’t buy one, for at the end of the day no one is really looking and no one really cares because they are there enjoying themselves just like you.

So why not buy a bikini this year and if you feel self-conscious try a sarong or kaftan.

• If you have a straight body and especially if you are short bodied a Kaftan works best.
• A Sarong sits much better and far more flattering on a curvy body, especially if you have a small waist.
• Try buying a multi -coloured sarong/kaftan then you can choose different coloured bikinis and footwear to match.
• If your breasts are set further apart or close together than average, a sliding triangle top works much better than a fixed top.
• To get rid of a muffin top choose a rise appropriate to your mid section. This means trying on many different styles, sitting down, crossing your legs etc and having a look at yourself in the mirror from all angles.
• Have patience, there is a bikini out there to flatter your body shape and above all be kind to yourself.

SWIMWEAR FOR THE FULLER FIGURE.

There is no place better on earth than this little island when the sun is shining, but this weather is such a rare occurrence for us that we do not have much experience in buying swimwear so when it comes to choosing a swimsuit or bikini it can be stressful not to mention actually wearing it.

Here are my top tips for choosing a swimsuit for the fuller figure.

• A swimsuit should give you the same support as your underwear, particularly if you are full-busted.
• Straight bodies look better in geometric patterns, while a floral pattern suits curvy body lines.
• Tankinis (bottom+vest top) are a great alternative if you want less figure hugging designs, also great if you are short bodied.
• Most women have great backs, but are inclined to ignore them as they are so concerned about how they look from the front. So choose a suit with a low or revealing back. To make you bottom look smaller and your back narrower always look for a center back seam, as it breaks the width of the swimsuit and gives you a much better shape.
• Always, always, always go for a wider strap if you have sloping shoulders or a full bust, it will make a huge difference to your overall shape.

NEXT WEEK I WILL COVER BIKINIS SARONGS AND KAFTANS.

Heading to the races? It’s the one event in the year that can leave us at a loss as to what to wear because everything depends on the weather. You could start the day wearing a beautiful light summer outfit, bare tanned legs and a large picture hat looking elegant and chic. The weather changes and you end up with blue goose bump legs and arms, holding on to your hat while trying to sip a hot whiskey to keep yourself warm as you stilettos sink backwards into the grass.

As with any outdoor event in Ireland we do not have the luxury of consistent weather, so going well prepared for all it has to throw at us will help you enjoy the day right to the end. Here are some guidelines to help you.

• Try and bring a medium size soft clutch bag on a chain to leave your hands free, if the bag is of a soft fabric, you can fit in much more, like a rolled up pashmina or tights.
• What looks covered in the mirror in our bedrooms will show through when the bright sun shines down or the flash of a camera goes off in your direction. We recognize that mistake the second we see photos of ourselves. The outline of our legs visible through the dress, a slight pink shade showing around our chests, some polka dots or stripes peeking through on our behinds. Indoor lighting can be deceitful, always wear a slip if you have any doubt and always, always check your angles in different lighting situations.
• Tired of damaging your heels sinking into the grass and getting caught in cracks. Look up Solemates High Heeler, they say it’s the sole-ution to high heel hazards. These are excellent for any occasion.
• Lastly when wearing a pashmina, a great tip to keep it on is, firstly throw the pashmina over your left shoulder and let it hang down the back, bring the other end over your left shoulder from the back to the front. It really is the reverse of how everyone does it. Guaranteed not to budge.
