Established in 1986 the Ballymun Job Centre (BJC) is a local community focused, people centred, placement, career guidance and training organisation. Based on a culture of
excellence and innovation, the BJC provides a range of services and programmes supported by local, national and European organisations.
The Project Support Worker will work closely with Probation Services and other statutory, community and voluntary services on programmes and initiatives such as:
STRIVE/J-ARC is a joint agency response to crime protocol which aims to target prolific offenders who cause harm or disruption in the Ballymun community. STRIVE/J-ARC brings together Garda, Probation Services, Irish Prison Services and community-based organisations and places the offender at the centre of the process and identifies his/her
needs, strengths and risk and provides an interagency co-operation and co-ordinated response to addressing them.
Ballyrunners - an activity and skills-based programme which targets high risk individuals in the Ballymun area and aims to positively engage participants in constructive activities and change their attitudes and behaviours.
This job demands a performance orientated individual who can influence others.
The position requires a person with a unique mix of skills that has the capacity to provide one to one contact to clients (some of whom may be in prison) and provide guidance, mentoring,
encouragement and support. It will also involve sourcing appropriate training and organising activities for clients to engage and participate in and developing individual progression plans
for clients. An understanding of issues around unemployment, addiction, mental health difficulties, antisocial behaviour and the criminal justice system along with knowledge of training and other support structures for disadvantaged people are key qualities needed.
The ideal person is highly motivated with a passion for engaging with clients on a daily basis. They should be self-driven, focused and diverse with the capacity to work within a team. Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, administration, minute taking, file
management and report writing skills along with a proven ability to develop and establish networks are all key requirements for this role.
2 years’ experience in a similar type of role along with a degree in Social work/Social care, Community or Addiction studies would also be desirable.
Terms of Employment – This is a part-time role, 20 hours per week and initially offered on aone-year fixed term contract. The role comes with a competitive employment package including a salary between €37,538 and €43,330 (pro rata) depending on experience. The
BJC operates a pension scheme, training opportunities, Flextime and working from home policies.
There may be potential for this role to increase to full-time hours, subject to the availability of additional resources and funding.
