I will be starting a new & important role soon 🤞
This is a role that I’ve wanted for quite some time! Like everything worthwhile doing in life, it took failure, disappointment, courage, learning, hope, encouragement, patience and hard work to get to this point. I have never given up hope and celebrated each and every milestone.
Same goes for work and career, nothing worthwhile is ever easy to achieve!
I look forward to all the transferable skills I will bring to this new role and the new skills I’m going to learn over the next year. Any tips on the new skills I’m going to learn?
Would love to read them in the comments section below .

Many of my clients describe how they ended up in careers or jobs that were heavily influenced by other people and/or external factors. These factors include societal pressure, the opinions of family and friends, what they felt they ‘should’ do rather than what they ‘wanted’ to do or the pressure to earn a certain salary or be part of a particular peer group or social circle.
Eventually their career passions have won out and they have made the brave decision to think about making some changes.
If you’re thinking about making any changes or enhancements to your job or career, DM me to arrange a free consultation. There is never any harm or commitment in having a conversation🌟

What makes a good CV? Does your CV pass the test?
Here are a few pointers to get you started.
🌟Mind the gaps on your CV - whether you took time out to travel, care for a family member, you were unemployed, on maternity leave or you decided to take a break from the world of work, this gap should be accounted for on your CV in the most appropriate way that works for you. No gaps = good and consistant communication.
🌟Spelling and grammar are SO important - no matter what, never ever send your CV to any prospective employer until your have double checked for spelling and grammar mistakes. No spelling and grammar mistakes = good attention to detail. There are no excuses.
🌟Keep to 2 pages max - it doesn’t matter how much experience you have, most recruiters or hiring managers will only spend a short time reviewing your CV so it needs to capture their attention. If you’re uncomfortable with this, I recommend keeping a long version of your CV for yourself that you can refer to in the future but present a much shorter version to potential employers. The hardest bit of all is cutting it down. Include the most information for your current job or recent jobs. All other jobs before that should include less information. Shorter CV = your ability to condense and summarise information.
If you would like some support in writing or perfecting your CV or Linkedin profile, please drop me a DM. I offer these services in addition to my career coaching practice.

Thinking of a career or job change in 2021?
5 tips to support you on the road to change
Take time – to think about why you want change, what direction would you’d like to take and what this change would bring to your career satisfaction and quality of life. Talk to a career coach who can support you in identifying and clarifying what you really want and how to go about it.
Research - Link in with people who have made a similar change into this type of job or career path to find out about their experiences. Contact HR dpts. or the head office of organisations you wish to work for and find out more information on how you could move into your chosen career or job. Your career coach can also support you with this.
Mind the gap – Having done your research, you should now know if there is a gap to bridge to help you secure your chosen career path or job. How can you bridge the gap? Do you need further work experience? Is there voluntary work you can do? Is there study required? Or perhaps there are books/materials you could read to educate yourself on your chosen field? What transferable skills do you have?.
Make a plan – So by now you know where you’d like to go and what you need to do to get there. It’s now time to make a plan with realistic goals and timelines. The plan should include sufficient time allocated to job search activities, networking, building your CV/Linkedin profile, job applications, interview preparation time etc. Your career coach can work with you on each of these goals and activities.
Celebrate the milestones – The road to a job or career change can sometimes feel challenging and may involve several steps and patience. It took courage to make the first steps towards this change so make sure you celebrate each milestone or goal you achieve along the way. Nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy so congratulate yourself for being on the journey towards a career or job change and look forward to new and exciting adventures ahead.

Many of us have spent time trying to ‘fit in’ with our teams, colleagues, peers, etc at some point in our working lives. Whilst it’s important that we have the right skills and experience for the jobs we’re being paid to do, we don’t have to have the same views, talents, specific skills or personality traits as the person working next to us. Diversity benefits us all.
What positive things are you known for in the workplace or in the community? Are you really good at baking or a whizz with Excel or PowerPoint? Are you great at organising events or perhaps good at getting to know new people? Perhaps you’re strong with technology and can help people out when they’re stuck in the workplace?!
Whatever your unique selling point is or USP, being aware of it and utilising it either in the workplace of the community can benefit your career, can contribute to your work happiness and can help you if you are looking for new opportunities as well as leaving a legacy! 😉
🤩 What is your USP?

The role models we held in our childhood can often play a part in the careers that we choose as adults . This is one of many areas that my career coaching clients often explore as part of our work together.

🌟Can you think of the role models you had as a child and what it was that you admired in them?
🌟In what ways do you see yourself as similar or different to these past role models?

Whatever today throws at us, let’s’ go easy on ourselves! We can’t always give 100% every day, and maybe today is one of those days. 🥰

🌟Don’t focus your energy on what other people are doing, it is a waste of time! Use your energy on knowing and achieving your own goals. Know your worth.
🌟Always always under promise and over deliver in the workplace! Don’t do the opposite… We can all be put on the spot to commit to a timeframe of when something will be completed however best to always be prepared for the scenario where you’ll be asked to take on extra work.
🌟Don’t eat lunch at the desk or skip lunch because you’re too busy! If something is urgent and needs to be completed, take a late lunch, but never skip it! That break will do you a much better service than cramming in extra work and getting no head space! .
🌟Remember that we are all replaceable! We may be amazing at our jobs and feel valued as an employee. We may also have great relationships with our colleagues...but if we walked out tomorrow, we would be replaced. The message is don’t plan your career around an organisation, plan the organisation around your career goals. Yes your organisation, clients, customers or patients are important and your contribution and achievements there are significant however don’t forget to prioritise yourself and your career!
🌟No matter what, always show up, be on time and be organised!

Whether you love or hate it, networking effectively can help increase your career opportunities either now or in the future.
Networking is a social skill and here are the rules:
⭐️First impressions matter - whether via online, phone, email or face-to-face. Always be prepared, dress well and be on time.
⭐️Do your research - about who you are meeting in advance and make sure to follow up on any good leads that they pass on.
⭐️Always talk positively - about yourself, about others and about your situation. Talking negatively won’t serve you well.
⭐️Never ask for a job - networking is an opportunity to gather useful information. It is not a job fair! Asking people for information or advice is much less pushy than asking for a job!
⭐️Give and take - networking is a two-way street. There’s no such thing as a free lunch! Think of ways you can help others in your network.
⭐️Listen - to any information, advice or support you are being given whilst networking. Make sure to ask good questions and you will be amazed at the amount of information you can find out.
⭐️Get names - of people who you don’t know yet but who maybe able to help you in the future. Whilst talking to a contact you might ask them if they know anyone else who might be interested in talking to you.

No matter what job you’re in or how far along you are in your career, most interviewers will ask this question (or a different version of the question!) at interview.
It’s a question that a lot of people dread, fail to prepare for or get right! Preparing the right answer can really benefit you and increase your chances of interview success!
There are 2 reasons why interviewers might ask this...
🌟To assess your level of self-awareness. Self-awareness is an important factor of career success. We can’t all be good at everything but knowing precisely what we’re great at and not so great at can help us successfully navigate our careers and work with other talented people whose strengths are our weaknesses, and vice versa!
🌟To ensure that your strengths and weaknesses compliment the skillset on the team or the skills that may be lacking on the team.
