One of the best parts of my job is when I can deliver even more than my customers expect. This happens most often when they give me a call about a machine that has given years of faithful performance but now looks to them like it must be replaced with a new appliance. I always urge my customers to give me a call if they are unsure of their diagnosis. After all, this is a free part of my service that does not entail any call-out costs for either party.
For instance I had a repair job lately that still puts a smile on my face when I think about it. It involved a Siemens washing machine that the lady had decided to give up on... after nineteen years! As I was the man who had fitted it for her originally, she chanced giving me a call. She told me what it would no longer do and I suggested what the problem could be. Then she decided to let me have a crack at repairing it. She dreaded the thought of buying and getting used to a new machine. Though we live in a throwaway society, for many of us changing appliances is a stressful ordeal.
When I fixed it she was simply delighted. She added she had a special occasion coming up and it was therefore most convenient for her not to have to splash out on a new machine. I told her that it was not possible to get that same quality nowadays and that her next machine would not give her anything like the same value for money as her old Siemens.
Lots of machines go wrong at some stage but it is worth your time to make sure that dumping one is actually the right thing to do. Giving me a quick call will often give you the answer and maybe piece of mind too.
