At Blas Foods we make locally grown produce available to our local community in the form of weekly vegetable boxes or processed foods like pesto, juice, cordials, herbs, depending on the seasonal vegetables available. We can do a lot better for ourselves & the local economy by choosing to look to what is being grown and produced in our communities, being more sustainable in the process. To do this
we need to get familiar and creative with what is seasonal in Ireland. With Blas I want to bring together a community of people learning and sharing both in the garden and at the table. Having trained as a raw food chef I have learned some exciting and innovative ways to prepare food, using sprouting, dehydrating, fermenting and of course there are salads too. With my family it's all evolved into a balanced mix of these skills with more traditional cooking, all of which I am happy to share. Working in a health food shop in Drogheda I got to know of Paddy Bryne and his organic farm in Skerries, it was an obvious start for me to make his veg boxes available to people. With the boxes I take orders weekly from people and they are collected and delivered usually by Friday afternoon. I also grow wheatgrass for sale, sprouts and peashoots. Very happy too to help people grow their own.. I see how busy people are and how we need healthy convenience foods at hand. In the longer term I am working towards making food products like pesto, salad dressings, infused oils, teas and fermented foods. Kefir is a drink I am currently working on, made from sugar and water, like yogurts which we are more familiar with, it is a great source of good bacteria.
