Last night, we dressed up and attended the Wexford Business Awards.

I love seeing businesses and individuals do well. I am genuinely passionate about supporting good people and focused businesses to achieve, strive, succeed, overcome challenges, and keep driving onward.

This event celebrates and recognises the resilience, ambition, and progress of businesses that sit at the heart of our economy and our communities and that, my friends, is no small thing.

Throughout the evening, I reconnected with contacts, connections, and clients. There were plenty of firm handshakes, honest conversations, and meaningful discussions about business journeys, the current landscape, opportunities, gaps waiting to be filled, the value of support, funding, new ideas, trust, change, talent in the room and of course, the dinner and our children too.

These are the conversations I enjoy most because they are real, relaxed and face to face.

Ultimately, this event exists to recognise achievement and true resilience in business.
Congratulations to every finalist, runner-up, and category winner. Every one of you is achieving, contributing, and helping lead the way for those coming behind us.

Two special pieces during the evening were the highlight of the “look to Wexford” initiative to highlight the full offering from the county of Wexford as a business arena. Keep an eye out for this.

Secondly the lovely acknowledgment of the wealth of support and genuine care that Blaise Brosnan has given to businesses spanning decades. So well deserved.

My own mighty win of the night went to my feet and my shoes….both survived the night intact !

Thank you to Paula Roche and all her team at County Wexford Chamber and Aisling O’Connor of County Wexford Chamber Skillnet for a lovely night.

Happy Friday folks! Apologies in advance for the 4min video (yes…4 whole minutes!)….This week was a mix of executive coaching, funding advisory, programme & learning design, training and heaps of consultancy to support SMEs and public sector entities to overcome challenges and find solutions. We had tourism, hospitality, construction, media, retail, financial and professional services sectors to support this week. I was reminded this week of how much I genuinely love what I do and what a real privilege it is to support good folk and valued clients. I never take that for granted. Meanwhile The link for the LEADERSHIP FROM THE GROUND UP (that I mentioned in the video below)for construction sector businesses is as follows: https://lnkd.in/eY2-BKeT

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

I am delighted to have the opportunity to support progress in sector I love, the construction sector. I will be doing this over the coming weeks via LEADERSHIP FROM THE GROUND UP, a practical learning series we have designed to support project leads, site managers, sector business owners/managers and emerging leaders in the Construction space. This initiative is supported by both Sustainable HRM Skillnet and County Wexford Chamber Skillnet.

If you are serious about your construction business, committed to operating professionally, retaining your people and skills, driving consistent excellence, strengthening leadership capability, and improving efficiencies to deliver sustainable projects then now is the time to step back from the day to day.
Take off the hard hat, down the tools, invest in the leadership that will build your future.....Register now: https://lnkd.in/eY2-BKeT

If your people are burned out, your business is already underperforming.Chew on that for a second.

Today feels like Monday… but it’s actually Tuesday!! And it’s also World Health Day.

We talk a lot about performance in business. Targets. Growth. Results. But we don’t talk enough about the thing that drives all of it, people’s health.

Now some of you may ask… “Mags, why are you talking about health?”Because it impacts people. And people impact everything in a business.

I spend my time looking at businesses, what’s working, what’s not, where the gaps are. But here’s a truth for you…If you ignore the people behind the business, I believe you are missing the biggest risk and the biggest opportunity.

As I’ve said before, the humans in and around your business will either make it or break it. You, your team, everyone connected to your business need to be in full fettle to keep things moving. And yet…41% of workers are highly stressed.1 in 5 feel lonely every single day...real life global stat. And we still treat health as a “nice to have”?

I have seen what poor leadership does. Bullying. Lack of accountability. No real support. The damage is real, for people and for the business. But I’ve also seen the opposite. Strong, accountable, authentic, human leadership and the difference it makes is huge.

The best leaders (and we all remember the good leaders we have had in our lives) don’t just talk about values. They live them. They take responsibility. They check in. Properly. Because leadership isn’t just about driving performance.

It’s about creating an environment where people can perform.

Boundaries matter. Support matters. And checking in with people? That should not be optional. If you step into leadership, in my view, you are obligated to learn that.

Healthy people build healthy businesses. It’s as simple and as difficult as that.

So I ask you this on a Tuesday (that feels like a Monday): What is one small thing you could do better to support real health, in yourself, your team, or your business?
