June gap creeping in? This is the time of year when it’s worth keeping a close eye on colony stores.

Your bees might be flying well, but if there’s a dip in forage or a spell of bad weather, strong colonies can burn through stores very quickly.

We have Apimix75 10L / 14kg reduced from €28 to €26.

It’s a ready-to-use inverted syrup with added vitamins and amino acids, ideal to have on hand for low forage periods, nucs, growing colonies, or when stores are running low.

Easy to use, no mixing needed, and a good one to keep in the shed during the busy season.

To use, simply pour into your usual hive feeder and place it inside the hive. For most set-ups, this will be above the brood box and under the roof, depending on the type of feeder you use.

As always, check stores first and feed only where needed. Avoid feeding syrup when honey supers are on for harvest.

Something smart is coming soon to Donegal Bees…

We’re getting ready to introduce a new way for Irish beekeepers to better understand what’s happening in their hives, with helpful insights between inspections. It’s practical, clever, and already being used as part of a very special native Irish honey bee conservation project here in Ireland.

More details coming soon πŸ‘€πŸ

Where does your beeswax go? 🐝

Every little flake of wax has taken a huge amount of work from your bees, so we believe it should be handled with care, traceability and respect.

When you exchange wax directly with Donegal Bees, your wax stays within our Irish wax exchange system. It is cleaned, sterilised and processed by us here in Donegal, before being turned into fresh beeswax foundation for Irish beekeepers.

We are proud to be the only company in Ireland producing beeswax foundation in-house, helping to keep valuable wax in the Irish economy and supporting a more local, transparent system for beekeepers.

Our foundation is made using carefully sourced Irish and European wax, processed to a high standard, and embossed with our upgraded deeper cell pattern, giving bees a clearer, fresher surface to work on.

So before you hand over your wax, it's important to keep this in mind.

At Donegal Bees, we are proud to keep wax working for Irish beekeepers.

🐝 Swarming season is here, are you ready?

With better weather on the way, colonies can build quickly, and swarming can catch even experienced beekeepers off guard.

A little preparation now can save a lot of panic later:
βœ… Have a spare super ready
βœ… Keep frames and foundation on hand
βœ… Set up a bait hive or nuc box
βœ… Consider lemongrass oil to help attract scout bees
βœ… Check your colonies regularly for signs of swarm preparation

If you think you might need equipment over the next week or two, it’s always best to order early rather than waiting until the bees have already made up their minds!
We have nucs, supers, frames, foundation and other swarm-season essentials available now.

Bee prepared, not panicked 🐝

It's World Bee Day 2026 ! 🐝🐝🐝 Today is a lovely reminder to notice the bees and pollinators around us, from honeybees and bumblebees to solitary bees, hoverflies and butterflies.

Here in Ireland, one third of our wild bee species are threatened with extinction, mainly because of the loss of food and safe nesting sites. The good news is that small actions really can help. The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan has brilliant free advice for gardens, schools, farms, businesses and communities.

A few simple things we can all do:
🌼 Mow less and let clover, dandelions and wildflowers bloom
🌿 Leave a wild corner for insects to feed, shelter and nest
🌸 Plant flowers, herbs, trees and shrubs for pollen and nectar
🐝 Avoid unnecessary sprays, especially around flowering plants

You can learn more about bees, pollinators, biodiversity and local heritage at our Honey Trail exhibition in Glencolmcille, including our interactive Virtual Hive and guided nature walks.
