Match Report:
πTHEY ONLY WENT AND DID ITπ
At last, our u17 boys got to play out their final v Enniscorthy CC yesterday in a very cold Ferrycarrig Park. With kick off postponed an extra 2 hours to help the ground thaw, this gave the lads an extra bit of time for final preparations and to really bed down the great camaraderie they have shown throughout their campaign.
We started very strongly and held most of the possession before David Harcourt broke the deadlock with a solid strike that, with the help of a minor deflection from the opposing defender, found its way into the back of the net. After the goal Enniscorthy picked up the pace and pushed us right to our limits before grabbing an equalizing goal just before the half time whistle.
At the break our lads brought themselves together and got behind one another once again to come out battling extremely well at the start of the second half. Once again it was almost a repeat of the first half with us holding most of the possession and creating the most chances. Finally, with about 15 minutes or so remaining a great run down the wing from Matthew Calder produced a great cross into the box and was headed into the back of the Enniscorthy net from our ever-clinical number 9, Jack Ellix.
After this, Enniscorthy once again started to go through the gears and had us on the ropes for the last 10 minutes, as our lads started to take their foot off the gas a little. Enniscorthy forced our keeper Ciaran Murphy to pull off some very good saves to keep us in it, and weβre so close to forcing extra time, but unfortunately it just fell right for us on the day. Just a word to the Enniscorthy Community College players - you lost nothing in defeat and should be extremely proud of yourselves on yesterdays performance, a huge well done!
As the final whistle blew there was gasps of delight (and of relief on the sideline), but smiles all round from all involved. A huge day for our school and just once again we want to say a massive well done to every player on the panel yesterday, you all played your part massively, not many players can say they won a cup final in Ferrycarrig Park!
Goalscorers - David Harcourt and Jack Ellix.
Man of the Match: Ciaran Murphy
Just a special mention again to the u15 players who stepped up and proved they are more than capable of playing at the higher level, and to our captain, Louie Cullen, who was the backbone of our team yesterday, you really proved why you are worthy of wearing that armband ππ
