We think caring is always in style. ๐Ÿฉต

Older people deserve to feel heard, valued, respected and supported โ€” not just today, but every day.

Our Care Assistants provide more than care. They provide companionship, encouragement, reassurance and a familiar friendly face at home. ๐Ÿก

Because growing older shouldnโ€™t mean giving up the things that make you you.

Care. Compassion. Independence. At home. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒป Not all disabilities are visible๐ŸŒป

Have you heard of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Card? ๐Ÿค”

The Sunflower is a discreet way for someone to communicate that they have a hidden disability and may need a little extra time, patience, understanding or support.

Would you benefit from a Sunflower Card or lanyard? ๐ŸŒป

Sunflower cards, lanyards, badges and other products are available through the official Hidden Disabilities Sunflower website. ๏ฟผ

A sunflower may look like a small symbol, but recognising it can make a big difference to someoneโ€™s experience.

You canโ€™t always see a disability โ€” but you can always choose understanding. ๐Ÿ’›

Waiting on an ambulance? ๐Ÿš‘

In an emergency, the minutes before an ambulance arrives can feel very stressful. Having some key information and items ready can help paramedics provide the best possible care quickly and safely.

If you are able, try to have:

๐Ÿ“‹ A list of current medications (including dosages)
๐Ÿฉบ Details of any medical conditions or allergies
๐Ÿชช Identification and your PPS/medical card if available
๐Ÿšช Clear access to the front door and remove any obstacles if it is safe to do so
๐Ÿ’ก Turn on outside lights if it is dark

Most importantly, stay as calm as possible and follow any instructions given by the emergency services while you wait.

๐Ÿ’š Being prepared can make a difficult situation a little easier for everyone involved.

As temperatures rise, it's especially important for older adults to stay hydrated. Our sense of thirst naturally decreases with age, making it easier to become dehydrated without even realising it. ๐Ÿ“‰

Simple ways to stay hydrated:
๐Ÿ’ฆ Sip water regularly throughout the day โ€“ don't wait until you're thirsty.
๐Ÿ‰ Enjoy water-rich foods like melon, berries, cucumber, and oranges.
โ˜• Limit too many caffeinated or alcoholic drinks, which can contribute to dehydration.
๐ŸŒค๏ธ Keep cool by staying in the shade or indoors during the hottest part of the day.
๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿ‘ด Check in on older family members, friends, and neighbours to make sure they're drinking enough fluids.

Watch out for signs of dehydration, including dizziness, confusion, headaches, dark urine, or feeling unusually tired.

A few extra glasses of water can make a big difference to health and wellbeing during warmer weather. Stay safe, stay cool, and stay hydrated! ๐Ÿ’ง
