SFMI | Pre-Budget 2027 Briefing
Ahead of Budget 2027, Solid Fuel Merchants Ireland will meet with TDs and Senators to highlight the key issues facing legitimate solid fuel retailers and the households they serve.
Our priorities include:
🔹 Stronger and more consistent enforcement of the Solid Fuel Regulations
🔹 Tackling the illegal trade in non-compliant solid fuels
🔹 Protecting rural fuel security and households experiencing fuel poverty
🔹 Supporting legitimate, compliant retailers through the transition to lower-carbon heating
🔹 Establishing a properly resourced, coordinated approach to enforcement nationally
The latest EPA figures underline the need for action: solid fuel regulation inspections fell by almost 10% in 2025, despite overall environmental enforcement activity increasing substantially.
