Meaningful change doesn’t happen in one training session.

Today, Jeanette is back with the team at REACH Deaf Services for a reflective practice session, following the Certificate in Relational Practice delivered in August.

The focus today is on putting learning into action. What’s working well? What challenges have arisen? And what can we do differently?

It’s about supporting staff, listening to experiences and continuing to create a more person-centred, neuro-affirmative and supportive environment for everyone.

A good manager doesn’t need to diagnose. They need to know how to respond.

When an employee begins to struggle, experiences a change in performance or needs additional support, how their manager responds matters.

It’s not about making assumptions or having all the answers.

It’s about knowing how to have supportive conversations, recognise potential barriers and create an environment where people can succeed.

For someone with a PDA profile, even everyday expectations can create a strong need to regain autonomy and control.

That’s why simply repeating the instruction, increasing consequences or becoming more authoritative can actually make things harder.

Changing how we communicate the demand can change the response.
