Blast Off's main area of work is currently the specialised blast cleaning of classic, vintage & rally vehicles during restoration & preparation

We use a special crushed glass blast media that removes the worst of rot as well as paint & sealer to give a nice, fresh surface to begin paint preparations with. Soda Blasting

Soda blasting is 100% non-toxic, water soluble, non-sparking

, inorganic, silica free & non-hazardous. It is gentle on delicate materials such as aluminium, fibreglass & rubber. It does not generate heat that causes distortion & leaves a thin coating on most surfaces that will protect from corrosion short-term. It will not 'frost' or damage glass or rubber seals. It will degrease most types of equipment without damaging the surface. It is very popular for deep-cleaning of food manufacturing equipment where its non-toxic property is essential. Ideal for NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) as the soda is gentle & there is no risk of crack closure that can be an issue with heavier types of media. Soda blasting is very popular for marine applications, in particular, cleaning the anti-fouling coating but without damaging the gel coat. The used soda blast media can be simply washed away once complete. For fire & smoke damage, soda blasting is a great media as it allows the cleaning of damage without affecting the original surface. There is no need to use water & it neutralises the fire & smoke odour. Its a great service for insurance companies that allows them to asses the real damage. Soda can be used to blast clean wooden surfaces without damaging them such as antique clocks as well as window frames where it will not damage the glass. Crushed Glass

Our crushed glass is available in 4 different grades for specific applications. It is manufactured from 100% recycled glass making it environmentally friendly. It is silica & Beryllium free, chemically non-toxic & inert. It does not contain chlorides or salts which can speed up corrosion. It is a great media for blasting the likes of classic, vintage or rally car bodyshells to remove years of paint, sealer & corrosion, leaving a good surface to prepare for painting. We will soon be offering a mobile service for clients that do not have the means to transport their bodyshell or parts to us or if your requirements are for a permanent structure or item. Alternatively, we offer a FREE COLLECTION service for parts for blasting throughout County Donegal & parts of County Derry & Tyrone - please contact us for further details & availability. A little test on an old Mk1 Es**rt Mexico wing we had kicking about.

Initially using soda to strip the paint from the front of the wing, it can be seen that the soda does not remove the light surface rust/corrosion.

However, using ultra fine crushed glass, it can be seen that the light surface rust/corrosion is totally removed.

Using a combination of the ultra fine crushed glass & soda, we can strip your bodyshell & body work back to bare metal giving you the best basis for your bare shell restoration or rally/race car build.
