A blast from my past.

Back in 1986, I worked for Manpower in Dublin and even then, they were far ahead of their time. I joined as a temp, moved in-house, and went on to spend 10 years progressing through the organisation. Along the way, I made lifelong friends across Ireland and the UK, developed invaluable skills, and benefited from training that was truly second to none.

Manpower looked after people properly. Temps received paid holidays and sick pay — something that was genuinely unique in 1986. Permanent staff were well paid, had pensions, extra holidays, and long-service bonuses. Because of that stability, I was able to buy my first home at just 24 years old.

Those years set me on a lifelong journey of customer care, sales, and a genuine love for recruitment and business. Forty years later, that love is still very much alive.

While tidying my home office recently, I came across a little gem from those days — a Manpower Overdrive leather pouch with shoe polish and brushes. Turning up for work “suited and booted,” as the saying goes, really meant something back then.

Manpower was also brilliant at merchandise, and Overdrive — their driving division — was leading the way in supplying top-quality temp drivers, keeping trucks on the road nationwide. During the lean times of the late ’80s, these highly rated temp roles kept families going.

This year, CSC Partners celebrates 10 years in business. Taking that leap of faith was made far easier because I had such a solid foundation in recruitment best practice and business from my early days at Manpower — something I’ll always be grateful for.

As 2023 draws to a close, its was heartening to see the support this year for our drive to bring Christmas to children and families in difficult circumstances. So a shout out to all who contributed to over 170 presents and making Christmas. Next year we are aiming to more than double that across the country.

So enjoy the festivities, hug those you love a little bit more. Rest and recharge, and keep Christmas in your hearts throughout 2024.

Ahead of the official photos, what an amazing day yesterday was. Members of BITA Chapters and boards travelled to , some for days to meet businesses and further strengthen the bond between us. Partnership and collaboration, giving of contacts and contracts is part of what makes BITA great.

We celebrated yesterday all the good that has been done and continues to be done by business people in our eco system in our sold out event.

Together with our sponsors Renatus and R.E.M. we welcomed members, guests, Cork Chamber, CBA, Causeway and innovative business's into the Clayton Hotel for a lovely afternoon. The buzz of conversation around the 15 tables was music to my ears.

Our guest speaker Sean Gallagher was outstanding and we all got some great nuggets of thought provoking information from him.

We couldn't have done it without the help and support of our board, BITA Global HQ, our President Paul Whitnell and his team in Ireland. The chairs of Irish and UK boards who made the journey and invited so many of their clients and contacts I thank you for helping showcase all that is good and great here in Cork.

We are now back to doing what we do best and yesterday proved that.....People who know people that help people.
