Last week saw the conclusion of this years collaboration with the Paramedic Studies students in UL.

Over 5 months, first year students on the course attended a one day programme which introduced them to Fire & Rescue Services, and gave them an insight into different incidents they will meet us at, as well as introducing them to some of the equipment and procedures we use.

The programme covered Incident Command, RTC, breathing apparatus, hazardous materials, patient handling and also showed the capabilities of our aerial appliance.

We were delighted to continue our long standing partnership with the Paramedic Studies School, and we hope all of the students enjoyed their brief taste of how we can work with them at many different incident types.

We would like to wish this years group the very best for the rest of their studies, and no doubt we will meet them “on the road” in years to come.

Confined Space training continued in recent weeks for our retained Firefighters in Newcastle West, Rathkeale and Foynes.

Firefighters were introduced to the latest national guidance, new equipment and were put through a variety of different scenarios as part of the course. We may be required to carry out a confined space rescue from tanks, silos, slurry pits and ships, as well as a variety of other locations.

Our thanks to all involved in running the course. We hope all the firefighters attending enjoyed it.

We are celebrating a significant milestone in Limerick Fire & Rescue Service this morning, as Firefighters Niall Woods and Paul Madigan attain 40 years service.

Both Niall and Paul started their Fire Service journey in 1986, attending the famous Washington Hall Training Centre, Chorley, UK.

We would like to congratulate Niall and Paul on this significant milestone. We also remember Brendan O’ Halloran and Fergus Moore from the 1986 class, whom were taken too soon.
