It was pleasure as always to participate in the National Services Day parade in Limerick. We were delighted to meet Junior Firefighter Sean McLoughlin who kindly allowed us to to get a picture of our new pump alongside his very impressive rapid response Fire Engine.

Our thanks to all of the organisers on their hard work getting this years parade up and running, and we look forward to next years!

We are delighted to be attending this year’s National Services Parade which takes place tomorrow.

The parade departs Pery Square at 14:00 and will follow a route through the city centre.

Also in attendance will be many different emergency vehicles and services from throughout the region.

Did you know you should test your smoke alarms weekly? This will give you peace of mind, knowing your alarms will work and alert you and your family if a fire does break out in your home.

It’s easy to do. Just push and hold the test button until the alarm sounds.

Can’t reach? Use the handle of a brush to do it instead.

Do you have elderly or vulnerable family members or neighbours near by? Assist them by testing smoke alarms for them.

We were delighted to host a very special guest this evening, as 11 year old Dylan Kelly paid a visit to Mulgrave Street to meet local professional boxer Graham McCormack.

Recently, Firefighters across Ireland, under team boxing coach Paddy Clavin, hosted a boxing event in aid of Aoibheann's Pink Tie, raising funds to support children battling cancer. As part of the event, special championship belts were made for each fighter which were signed by firefighters and police present from all over the world. These belts are now being presented to children who are fighting cancer as a symbol of their courage and strength.

We were delighted to host the presentation of a belt to Dylan, as well as give him and his family an opportunity to get a tour of the station and meet the crew on duty.

All present were in awe of Dylan, and the bravery and courage he has shown as he tackles his illness head on. We would like to wish him and his family the very best in the days ahead, and hope to see him back for a return visit in the future.

Our thanks to Paddy Clavin for contacting and allowing us the privilege of hosting Dylan, his family and Graham on station.

All of us in Limerick Fire & Rescue service were saddened to hear of the passing of Sergeant Andrew O’ Riordan of Mayorstone Garda Station.

We would like to extend our sympathies to Andrew’s family, friends and many colleagues in An Garda Síochána.

The Condition Orange - High Fire Risk warning has been extended until at least 12:00, Monday 20th of July.

Over the past number of days, many wildland fires have broken out in Limerick and other areas of Ireland. Some, such as a fire in Killarney National Park, have been attributed to the use of disposable barbecues in these areas.

Given the dry conditions in recent weeks, vegetation in wildland areas is bone dry. It literally only takes one small spark to start a fire. Using barbecues or lighting campfires in these areas could have unintended consequences.

Enjoy the scenery that all countryside and wildland areas have to offer this weekend. However, keep your cooking skills to the confines of your kitchen or garden.

In the event of a fire, leave the area immediately and dial 112/999 to mobilise your nearest Fire Brigade.

Overnight, crews from Rathkeale, Newcastlewest, Kilmallock, Cappamore and Limerick City attended a commercial fire in Croom.

Crews worked hard to limit the spread of fire to adjoining premises, and utilised an Aerial Rescue Platform and water tankers to assist in dealing with the blaze.

Our thanks to members of the local community and business owners who supported our crews throughout the firefighting operation.

The Condition Orange Fire Danger Warning has been extended until at least 12:00 on the 17/7/26.

The dry spell is also contributing to soil moisture deficits, which increases the fire risk in all bog and peatland areas.

Continue to exercise responsible fire safety behaviours in these areas for the duration of the warning period.

If you see a fire in these areas, no matter how small, ring 112/999 straight away to mobilise the nearest Fire Brigade.
