Brian O'Connell, a member of Limerick Thomond Rotary Club recently presented a copy of his biography of Brendan O'Regan to Rotary President Mark Maloney at Rotary HQ in Illinois USA. Brian also briefed the President of the contribution Brendan made to Irish life and his important association with and appreciation of Rotary and the work we do in the world. If you are interested in engaging with voluntary service in the community Rotary is a great way to do it. If you are interested I’d be delighted to hear from you.

Homeward bound from the Rotary International Assembly in San Diego, California to the little green island in the north east Atlantic. I have, with my training partner Nicki Scott, spent two weeks working with the most amazing, creative and generous group of Rotarians and partners and, Rotaractors; all of us in learning mode to deliver a programme of knowledge and skills to a community of 525 Rotary District Governors Elect. Those District Governors Elect will “Be The Inspiration” and bring servant leadership to the 1.2 million Rotarians across the world. “Rotary Connects The World.” . The last photo is Dr. Ursula Callaghan, my minder and best friend - appartntly at sea. Best wishes and safe travels to all.

This month thousands of Rotarians across the world will take up voluntary office in Rotary Clubs, Rotary Districts and at International level in the service of their communities. I wish everybody new in office and those that support them the very best with "Rotary: Making A Difference".

As I drove over the River Shannon at 0630 this morning to walk with my son Cian I heard the news on the radio that Leonard Cohen had died. My tears came spontaneously and instantaneously; it was like a part of me that had been there since early teenage years had disappeared. His passing is a great loss to the world that heard him and as I write I am conscious of the millions that never were exposed to his richness due to their own life circumstances. In an angry, rude, vengeful and hostile world he was a bright beam of light, a rainbow. I’m thinking my sons’ generation who appreciated him and particularly Hugo Newman. We will always have him through his music and words. May he rest in peace.
