I think one of the strangest feelings in life is outgrowing a version of yourself you thought would last forever.
For me, that was playing football. Training during the week, matches at weekends, boots always in the car. It wasn’t just something I did, it was part of my identity and honestly I loved that chapter of life.
But at some point, without any huge dramatic moment, something slowly shifted. My intentions changed, my goals changed and what I wanted from life started changing too & I remember feeling really uncertain during that phase because when something has been part of you for so long, stepping away from it can almost feel like losing yourself a little bit. You end up in this weird / strange in-between stage where you don’t fully connect to the old version of you anymore, but you’re not fully clear on the next version either.
I think a lot of people quietly go through that in life. Career changes, relationship changes, friendship groups changing, wanting different things out of life & becausee there’s no roadmap for those transitions, it can feel lonely at times.
But one thing I’ve learned is that uncertainty doesn’t always mean you’re going backwards. Sometimes life is just moving you into a new chapter, sort of an evolution that you will one day look back on with a completely different lens.
For me, training became one of the biggest anchors during that period. Not because it solved everything overnight, but because it gave me structure, routine and something positive to control while other parts of life felt uncertain.
So if you’re in one of those phases right now where life feels a bit uncertain and you’re questioning where you’re heading, don’t panic.
Sometimes the uncomfortable feeling isn’t because something is wrong necessarily, it can simply be growth happening in real time.
