A brighter, greener future for Lough Rea Hotel & Spa!

Running a busy hotel takes a lot of energy!

From hot water and kitchens to guest rooms, ventilation and spa facilities, there's always something running behind the scenes. And with rising energy costs, finding smarter ways to manage those bills has never been more important.

We're delighted to share our 2026 solar PV installation at Lough Rea Hotel & Spa, right here in Co. Galway.

Our team installed 138 solar panels, creating a 62.79 kWp system designed to help the hotel produce its own electricity, reduce running costs and support its sustainability goals.

And here's what makes this installation particularly interesting:

⚡ 97.7% of the electricity generated is expected to be used directly by the hotel.
☀️ That's a projected 53,749 kWh of solar electricity every year.
🌱 With estimated annual CO₂ savings of more than 20 tonnes.

It's a great example of how solar can help hotels reduce their environmental impact while taking greater control of their energy costs.

And Lough Rea Hotel & Spa isn't our first hospitality project!

We've also delivered solar installations for other hospitality businesses including Wildlands and Ballynahinch Castle Hotel.

We're proud to be helping Irish hospitality businesses become more sustainable, efficient and resilient.

A big thank you to the team at Lough Rea Hotel & Spa for choosing Solgrid!

📸 Take a look through our case study to see the project and our installation team at work.

There's a lot of potential sitting on the rooftops of Irish businesses!
And Kean’s HomeValue in Claremorris is a great example of what can be achieved.
This family-run business has been serving its community for over a century. When the team decided to invest in sustainability, they turned to Solgrid to help put their rooftop to work.

We installed 115 solar panels, creating a 56.35 kWp system designed to generate clean electricity, reduce grid dependence and support the business for years to come.

And how did it perform?
When James Kean, Managing Director, shared his experience the following year, he reported that the system was generating:
☀️ 75–80% of their electricity needs during good weather in May.
⚡ 59% of their electricity needs in July.

In James's own words:
"The system is delivering exactly as promised, helping to offset rising energy prices and clearly demonstrating a return on our initial investment."

We're delighted to have played a part in Kean’s sustainability journey, and we thank James and the team for their trust in Solgrid.

🚨 BUSINESS OWNERS — NOW IS THE TIME TO TALK SOLAR!

SEAI commercial solar grant support has nearly doubled from around 23% to 45% of eligible costs, but this enhanced funding is only available for nine months.

That's a significant opportunity to reduce the upfront investment in commercial solar — but planning and approvals take time, so don't leave it too late.

Solgrid Welcomes Increased Commercial Solar Grants! Great news for Irish businesses! SEAI grant support for commercial solar PV has nearly doubled, increasing from approximately 23% to up to 45% of eligible costs, with grants of up to €325,200.

It's a significant opportunity to reduce the upfront cost of solar and take greater control of long-term electricity bills.

But the increased support is time-limited.

As our General Manager, Aidan Mc Curtin, says:
"We'd encourage businesses to start the conversation now, before the window closes."

⏳ Enhanced funding is available for new applications until 6 July 2027.

New €600 SEAI battery grant now available ⚡🔋 Home battery storage has just become more accessible, with a new €600 SEAI grant available for eligible battery systems of 5 kWh or larger.

A home battery can store electricity for use later, helping you make better use of your solar generation and giving you more flexibility over when you use energy.

👉Who can apply?
The grant is available for eligible properties owned by:
☑ Homeowners, including private landlords
☑ Owner Management Companies
☑ Approved Housing Bodies

The property must have an MPRN, must have been built and occupied before 2025, and cannot previously have received grant funding for a battery at that MPRN.

👉What does the grant cover?
The grant is a flat €600 for a home battery system of 5 kWh or larger. Batteries below 5 kWh are not eligible.

If you are installing solar PV and battery storage together, you can apply for both grants in a single application.

One important point: you must receive your SEAI Grant Offer before installation begins, and the battery must be installed by an SEAI-registered Solar PV Contractor.

Thinking about adding battery storage to your home, or installing solar and battery together?
