3️⃣conversations, 3️⃣completely different businesses, 1️⃣clear retail trend.

Comment '122' and I'll DM you the episode link.

Ahead of eTail UK, I sat down with Charlotte Crabb from Curvy Kate, Stephen Dewar from Blackcircles.com and Olivia Parkes from Persi for a special The Retail Tea Break Podcast mash-up episode.

All three conversations highlighted the same reality: customers don't experience retail in departments, they simply experience your brand.

The retailers making the biggest progress right now are the ones connecting teams, data and decision-making around a single objective. They are serving customers better!

What happens when you bring together a lingerie brand, a tyre retailer and an AI-powered fashion tech business?

Ahead of eTail UK I sat down with three brilliant speakers who are all tackling the same challenge from very different angles: creating more connected retail experiences.

In this special Retail Tea Break mash-up episode, you'll hear insights from:

➡️ Charlotte Crabb, Curvy Kate on breaking down silos between brand, digital and marketing teams

➡️ Stephen Dewar, Blackcircles.com on embedding AI across an organisation while keeping people at the centre

➡️ Olivia Parks, Persi on the future of personalization and why customers expect more than generic recommendations

The common thread running through each conversation was the growing need for retailers to connect teams, technology and customer experience.

These are exactly the kinds of conversations we'll be continuing at eTail UK on 16-17 June at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, where I'll be MCing across both days. If you're attending, come and say hello; and if you're looking for a preview of some of the thinking shaping this year's event, this episode is a great place to start!

One of the most interesting parts of my conversation with Kim Whyte from Pawpear was her perspective on Irish storytelling in retail.

Working with the Guinness Storehouse and the Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College, Kim spoke about the importance of respecting heritage while still creating something contemporary and commercially relevant. As she said herself, the real question is “What expression of Ireland do we want to put out into the world today?”

A brilliant reminder that the strongest brand storytelling feels authentic, modern, and emotionally connected to culture. Listen to episode 121 today:

Mentorship played a huge role in helping Kim Whyte build Pawpear an idea into a brand now stocked in more than 90 retailers internationally.

In this episode, Kim shares the impact mentors including Thomas Ennis, Paul Duggan and Ruth Larkin had on her confidence, decision-making and growth, along with the practical advice that helped turn sketches in a notebook into a thriving Irish brand.

This week on The Retail Tea Break Podcast I’m joined by Kim Whyte founder of Pawpear.

What started as an idea sketched in a notebook is now a beautifully design-led stationery brand stocked in more than 90 retailers across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the United States. PawPear has also collaborated with iconic Irish institutions including the Guinness Storehouse and the Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College Dublin.

It’s an honest and genuinely inspiring conversation for anyone working in retail, business, or brand building.

I had great fun contributing to Retail Technology Innovation Hub's NEW “Desert Island Retail Technology” series 🏝

➡️Comment  "HUB" and I'll DM you to link.

It gave me the chance to reflect on everything from my earliest days working on a shop floor in the late 90s to the technology shaping retail today.

Some of my choices might be predictable and a couple probably won’t be. What I enjoyed most while writing it was realising how much retail has changed… and how much of it hasn’t.

The tech tools evolve and the pressure points move, but great retail still comes back to people and making the customer experience feel effortless.
