Retail has a habit of holding onto things long after they've stopped being effective.

One example? Free delivery thresholds.

In my conversation with Ben Newbon-Stead, he challenged retailers to take another look at thresholds that may have been set years ago and never reviewed; customer behaviour has changed, costs have changed and average order values have changed.

The question is: has your delivery strategy changed with them?

Sometimes the biggest opportunities aren't found in new technology. They're found by questioning old assumptions.

One of the biggest myths in retail is that success comes from having better technology than everyone else.

➡️It doesn't.

In this clip from The Retail Tea Break Podcast, Abdu Alhadithi from Sculpted by Aimee argues that most retailers already have access to the same tools, platforms and innovations.

The real difference lies elsewhere. It's in how quickly businesses are willing to test, learn and adapt.

Not every idea will work. In fact, most won't. But creating a culture where teams are encouraged to experiment and learn from failure could be the difference between staying ahead and being left behind.

A timely reminder that growth doesn't come from seeking perfection.

It comes from being willing to try.

A microwave probably isn't the first thing you'd expect to hear about on a podcast discussing the future of retail.

Yet one of my favourite insights from my conversation with Samantha Mo from Samsung was about a simple influencer video demonstrating exactly that.

No flashy production or big-budget campaign. Just someone showing how the product worked in real life!

The result? The product sold out for months.

It's a great reminder that consumers don't always want polished. They want authentic. They want to see products used by real people in real situations.

What do a microwave, free delivery threshold and a retailer being told to fail more often have in common?

No, this isn't the start of a bad retail joke.

It's what happened when I sat down with Samantha Mo (Samsung), Abdu Alhadithi (Sculpted by Aimee) and Ben Newbon-Stead for the latest Retail Tea Break Podcast:
➡️Samantha shared how a simple influencer video demonstrating a microwave helped drive extraordinary sales.
➡️Abdu argued that the retailers who win won't necessarily have better technology, they'll simply test faster than everyone else.
➡️And Ben challenged one of retail's most sacred cows: free delivery.

Three very different conversations, one common thread.

I love these mash-up episodes of The Retail Tea Break Podcast because they bring together different perspectives on the same challenges facing retail today.

Comment 123 and I'll DM you the episode!

I sat down with Samantha GeeSan Mo from Samsung, Abdu Alhadithi from Sculpted by Aimee and Ben Newbon-Stead to talk about AI, data, customer experience and digital growth.

Across all three conversations, a common thread emerged that technology matters, but it's the people, processes and customer understanding behind it that ultimately drive growth.

📌You'll catch all of the speakers in Manchester next week at eTail UK on 16th & 17th June.
