That’s a wrap! So, as we reach that time between old and the new, I want to say thank you again for the memories and here’s to making new ones.
To everyone who called in to wish us well, the many cards, gifts, texts, calls and letters that came from near and far- really, the sentiment has been overwhelming.
Thank you too for the kind words about my parents, and for sharing your recollections of them. I learned even more about how fabulous they were in the last week or two.
Thanks to Kevin Byrne for calling in today to take these snaps of Pauline, Breda, Aoife, Kitty and myself. We will treasure them.
Thursday and Friday, January 6th and 7th we will open from 12 noon to 5pm for a half-price sale.

Hi Everyone. A little update about the shop. After coming home in the 1980’s to help my parents, Martin and Rose, to run the business, all these years later the counter has now become the basis for many long-standing friendships.

This December 31st however, after being convinced by my family, I have made the tough decision to retire. My lifelong friends are all enjoying their retirement and maybe I’ve become a bit envious! 😂 So, the time has come to bite the bullet and join them. That means that I’m closing the doors on the shop for good.

I want to thank everyone who has made Ó Hóráin’s what it is today. I will miss the chats, the laughs and all that comes with it. Thank you so much to the team of people who I consider to be more than colleagues- they are my family. A group of people upon whom I have relied on a daily basis- Breda, Kitty, Pauline, Dave, Nicole, Joanne and many more. ❤️

I also want to thank my wonderful neighbours on the street, many of whom I’ve known for decades.

So, that’s about it. 13 more sleeps! Keep your eye on the page early into the New Year as I will have a closing down sale for one or two days only.

In the meantime, stay safe everyone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your custom.
I’m now looking forward to seeing you all as a “civilian”!

Oisín’s Nanny grew up across the road from our shop. She knows our ice cream well and treated her second born Grandson to his first one today. How cute!! She told us Oisín didn’t let go for a second, nor did he look as clean as he does in the snap as he did afterwards!! 😂 Proper order. Thanks for the pic, Marian Deffew. He’s a dote. 💚
