If you find that your system is slow to open web pages when you open your Browser this may be an indication that your system is running slowly and not your Broadband.
Try running a speedtest through your Browser to check the speed of your connection. If the speed is what you expect then your computer may in fact need to be cleaned.
This can be done using a number of utilities which are free to download and take up a minimal amount of space on your machine.
Glarys utilities can be downloaded from Ninite.com. This program will clean up temporary files on your computer, fixes any shortcuts and application errors and will optimise the speed of your PC.
You may want to ensure your antivirus is up to date. Malwarebytes is a good free program to check for any malware on your computer. You can also download this from ninite.com and it will remove most malware from your computer.
Only visit sites you trust as most malware gets onto your machine from visiting websites and not from illicit websites as most people might think.

If you need to check your online usage you will need your customer
number which you can find on your welcome pack, plus your MAC address from your Twoway modem box which can be found on a sticker on your twoway modem itself.
Go to this link: http://usage.onwave.ie and enter your info to see your usage results.

In order to do a successful speedtest you should go to the onwave speedtest page here: http://speedtest.onwave.ie/ and perform a speedtest.
Ideally your speedtest should be performed with your laptop plugged directly into the Twoway satellite modem and no other devices using data at the same time.
Unnfortunately Wireless speedtest results cannot be guaranteed as wireless speedtest results can be inconclusive and are susceptible to interference from environmental factors.

Today's tip involves using your Smartphone Apps to analyze and optimise your wifi network. Unfortunately if you are the proud owner of an iphone these tips will not be helpful to you as the App store has taken them down and no longer has support for these App's.

So, for those of you who are the lucky owners of Android devices, onwards and upwards. There are a vast number of tools you can use to test your Wifi Network, but the best of these is probably Farprocs Wifi analyzer.

Wifi Analyzer is a handy tool which helps you to select a better channel for your wireless router. The only channels you should use are 1,4,7 or 11. Do not use the channels between as they overlap other channels causing packet (Data) loss.
On the AP (Access Point) list you will see all the wireless access points around you and the channels they use.
On the channel graph screen you will see a graph representation of all the wireless signals around you and how they overlap.
The channel rating screen will show you a rating for all of the available wireless channels and it will also advise you on which is the best channel to use.
The signal meter is an excellent tool to let you see any dead or blackspots in your Home/Business. The meter will beep continuously and the needle will be in the green zone when the signal is strong. The beep will slow and the needle will drop as the signal gets weaker.

Tips on prolonging the Battery life of your Smartphone:
Do you find that your Smartphone Battery only lasts a day if you are lucky? There are a number of steps you can take in order to prolong your Battery life.

Turning off your Wifi when you are not using it or if you are out of range of your normal Wifi will prolong your Battery life for a few hours. This is because your Smartphone is continuously trying to connect to any Wifi that is in range which drains the Battery.

You can also change your email settings so that you download your email yourself instead of automatically on your Phone. Your Phone checks your mail automatically depending on your settings. You can either reduce the number of times your phone tries to sync email in your email settings or turn them off so that you check yourself.

You can also turn off automatic upload of photos to cloud storage like Dropbox, icloud or Skydrive.

Reducing the brightness setting on your screen is another step you can take in order to prolong your Battery. This can be done in your display settings.

Downloading a Battery saver APP will give you the ability to turn off any APPs running in the background on your Phone which can drain your battery.
