💡 Quick hedge care tip!

If you spot briar or ivy growing underneath or through your hedge, remove it as soon as possible.

These compete for light, water and nutrients, and can eventually smother or even kill an otherwise healthy hedge. In many cases, they’re a greater long-term threat than a prolonged dry spell…

A few minutes spent removing them now can save you from having to replace sections of your hedge later 🌿

🍃Pretty tall (i.e. see fence and blue plant pot on the right for scale) beech hedge tidied up in yesterday as part of an overall front and back garden tidy up

This beech hedge wasn't looking its best when the client got in touch with me earlier this year.

Two visits later — one in early April to cut back the neighbour's Leylandii branches growing through the hedge, and another last week to trim and level it — it's looking much healthier and far more presentable. 🌿

Restoring a hedge isn't about one big transformation, but about giving it the right care at the right time.

Overgrown front garden tidied up in on Friday morning 🍃☀️

A couple of shrubs that were surplus to requirements were removed, one was carefully unrooted and replanted in the opposite corner, the remaining shrubs were cut back and shaped, and the tree was lightly pruned and cleared of ivy… A lot can be achieved in just half a day! 💪🏻

🍃 Lovely beech hedge trimmed in this morning ☀️

A beech hedge his hard to beat when it comes to privacy and aesthetics! 🤩

And the best of it all? It’s beautiful copper colour in the winter 🍂

Work completed in a mature front garden in on Wednesday morning:

🍃Beech hedge levelled and trimmed (also removed ivy growing underneath)
🪾Ivy removed from tree
🪏Unhealthy shrub covered with ivy removed to facilitate vehicle access to the driveway

💡Tip of the day: if you see ivy growing anywhere in your garden, remove it! If you don’t it will eventually take over and damage your outdoors
