National Farm Safety Week 2026

National Farm Safety Week is a timely reminder that the best investment on any farm is one that helps you get home safely at the end of the day.

As part of this year's National Farm Safety Week, I've been helping farmers identify and source equipment available under the TAMS Farm Safety Capital Investment Scheme that can reduce risk and improve day-to-day safety on farms.

The photos below highlight some of the practical investments currently available, including equipment designed to improve livestock handling, reduce manual lifting, improve yard safety, and make everyday farm tasks safer. These are some of the TAMS investment claims we have completed this year.

🚜 ACRES Co-operation NPI Portal is NOW OPEN! 🌿

The 2026 Non-Productive Investments (NPI) application portal is now open, giving eligible ACRES Co-operation farmers the opportunity to apply for funding for a wide range of environmental improvements.

📢 Key points to note:

✅ Tranche 1 farmers: This is your final opportunity to apply for NPIs before your current ACRES contract ends 31/12/2027

❌ Bracken Strimming and Bracken Mechanical are NOT available in the 2026 NPI Annual Works Plan.

🌳 Tree planting, new hedgerows and hedge rejuvenation may now be permitted in Breeding Wader Hotspots, subject to screening and approval.

⚠️ Do not begin any works before receiving your NPI Approval Letter. Works started before approval are not eligible for payment.

🧾 Keep all invoices and receipts, as they may be required during inspections.

📅 Application deadline: 17th October 2026

📌 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) 2026

The application window for BISS 2026 is now open.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 15 May 2026.

Over the coming weeks, farmers will be receiving a BISS information pack in the post containing their maps and land details for 2026.

Farmers can apply for all elements of Direct Payments (BISS, Eco-Schemes, Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers, Protein Aid, National Reserve, transferring of entitlements)
