A lot of influencers are telling you to download Claude skills from GitHub. I'd think twice before you do.

Three reasons.

First, you have no idea what's inside that file. A skill is a set of instructions Claude follows without question. Hidden instructions AKA Prompt Injection, in there get acted on. Most people can't spot that.

Second, it was built for someone else's business. Their tone, their clients, their way of working. The output will show that.

Third, and this is the real one: building your own skill is where the learning actually happens.

You have to articulate exactly what you want, how you want it, and what good looks like.

That process makes you better at using AI across everything, not just skills.

Claude can guide you through it. You don't need GitHub for that.

My last reel on converting PDFs to markdown for Claude hit 100k views. This one goes further and may solve all the question people had when dealing with PDF's that were more than just text.

I found a tool from Datalab that converts any PDF into clean markdown. Text, headings, images described. All of it. I tested the markdown with Claude and it was impressed.

Most people get one answer from Claude and stop there.

That's the mistake.

Claude's first response is a starting point, not a finished product. When you ask it to critique its own answer and rewrite it, the difference is significant.

Sharper thinking. Tighter copy. Better output.

If Claude keeps giving you generic answers, this is probably why.

Project instructions tell Claude exactly who you are, what you do, and how you want it to respond, before you type a single message. Set them once, and every chat in that project starts from the right place.

No more re-explaining yourself. No more off-brand responses. Just consistent output every time.
