Ever wondered what’s underneath your feet? 👀

This week, the team were out in the West of Ireland carrying out trial pitting to establish the depth to bedrock for one of our clients.

So, what does that actually mean?

In very simple terms, trial pitting helps answer: “What’s underneath this site, and how far down can we go before we hit rock?” 🚜🪨

💡 Did you know?

The depth to bedrock can vary significantly from site to site. Knowing what lies beneath the ground can be important when planning foundations, drainage, wastewater systems and other development works — and can help identify potential site constraints before work progresses.

This week our Ecology Team has been exploring the Sligo uplands, carrying out ecological surveys around a wind farm. 🌬️🌿

From checking passive monitoring equipment to spotting hare tracks along the way 🐾🐇, there’s always something interesting to find when fieldwork takes you off the beaten track!

Its our Friday Wrap

Our Monitoring Team has been busy carrying out dust monitoring, keeping a close eye on what’s in the air while enjoying some of the finest outdoor offices the West of Ireland has to offer. 🌬️

💡 Dusty fact: Dust monitoring helps sites keep track of dust levels from quarrying activities and provides important information for managing environmental impacts and meeting monitoring requirements.

No dust swept under the rug here! 😉🧹

We’re otterly ready for the weekend! 😄

This week, Catherine was out and about in Co. Sligo carrying out an Otter Survey as part of a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal. 🦦🔍🌿

💡 Otter fact: Did you know otters are a protected species in Ireland? 🦦 They use rivers, lakes, coastlines and other waterways for feeding and travelling, and ecological surveys can look for signs such as tracks, spraints and resting places to establish whether otters are using an area.
