Be aware if you get a phonecall from someone claiming to be from Revenue asking for your PPS number or address.

It has come to the notice of the Revenue Commissioners that a caller (reported to have a non-Irish accent) purporting to be a Revenue official has been contacting businesses seeking PPSN numbers or addresses of named taxpayers.

Revenue have issued a leaflet explaining the new 9% VAT rate from Friday (1st July). If you provide a service or product for which the new rate applies, I would recommend that you read it.

A second reduced VAT rate of 9% applies in respect of certain goods and services for the period 1 July 2011 to 31 December 2013.

Do you have your holiday booked but would love to have extra money to spend on them??? Check if you have unclaimed tax credits like medical expenses, waste charges, tuition fees, donations and you may be due a tax refund. You may be surprised with the amount of tax you are due back!!!! If you are lucky enough to have savings or in a position to save regularly, now is as good a time as any shop around some offers irish banks are giving at the moment, e.g. Permanent TSB online regular savings gross of up to 4% p/a and AIB regular saver of ECB + 2.5% for first 12 months. various terms and conditions apply so shop around for the best deal based on your circumstances.

Permanet TSB offers additional 10% of any lump sum (of €5,000 or greater) paid off a tracker mortgage with them. If you are in the lucky position to be able to do this, read this article by Charlies Weston first. Don't forget, any money you pay off your mortgage cannot be given back to you!!

Revenue have announced that when calculating your 2011 Preliminary Tax and base it on 100% of your 2010 Tax liability, the preliminary tax payment for 2011 is to be based on the final liability for the year 2010 as if the USC had been payable and as if the income and health levies had not been payable for that year. Is that confusing enough for you??
