Meet The Artists behind Skibbereen’s Painted Past 🎨

🖌️Megan Clancy

Megan Clancy is a multidisciplinary artist and creative entrepreneur from West Cork. Born and raised in the region, she developed a deep appreciation for its natural beauty and strong artistic identity from an early age.

After several years living and working abroad – broadening her creative influences and perspective – Megan returned home to reconnect with her roots and contribute to West Cork’s thriving cultural landscape.

Her artistic practice spans painting, illustration, and mixed media, often exploring ideas of belonging, transformation, and the quiet relationship between people and place.

Guided by intuition and emotion, her work reflects the shifting rhythms of coastal life and the enduring pull of home.

Megan is also the founder of Core Creative, a successful artist workspace and design and print studio based in Bantry.

From this collaborative premises, she runs her design and branding studio, supporting local and national businesses through story-driven, visually engaging communication.

Through both her art and her business, Megan celebrates creativity as a force for connection, community, and identity in modern rural Ireland.

The Skillnet Innovation Exchange will be here at Ludgate Hub on Friday September 18th with a series of free innovation information clinics for local West Cork businesses 💡

How does it work?

It's a 30-minute conversation. You talk, Sean of the Skillnet Innovation Exchange listens, and he'll tell you honestly whether Skillnet Innovation Exchange can help. If it can, he'll explain exactly how the process works and what it would take from your side. If it can't, he'll say so and point you somewhere that can.

No cost. No preparation needed. No commitment on the day. Just a conversation about what's slowing your business down.

Bring the digital transformation problem that's been sitting on your desk, spend 30 minutes with the Innovation Exchange team, and leave with a clear view of how and how quickly it can be solved.

Slots are limited and they'll go quickly, secure yours today: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/appointments/schedules/AcZssZ0_efqcyrgVI_noc9LxfMcTQpaLEZfPBSySEbsU3y_K9ysOBrj3cVF1dGfXdx71C57Y5LEA97GM

Every organisation has a problem it hasn't got round to solving. A manual process nobody has time to fix. Data sitting in three systems that don't talk to each other. A reporting requirement landing next year that you already know will be painful.

Most of these never get solved, not because the technology doesn't exist, but because nobody has the time to go looking for it.

That's where Skillnet Innovation Exchange comes in, and rather than ask you to travel, we're bringing them to Ludgate Hub. Sean McGrath, Corporate Partner Manager at Skillnet Innovation Exchange, will be at Ludgate Hub on Friday 18th September for a clinic of short, informal one-to-one conversations with businesses from across West Cork.

Bring a digital transformation challenge your business hasn't got round to solving such as automation, data, ESG reporting, customer experience, or an inefficiency you've learned to live with.

Sean will tell you honestly whether SIE can help, and how.

No cost, no preparation, no commitment.

🎨Behind every painted wall is a community that helped make it possible.

This week, we want to say a very special thank you to Fusion Home Albany , who have supported our mural project from the very beginning.

Year after year, their generosity and belief in what we are trying to create has helped turn blank walls into extraordinary works of art and allowed artists to bring colour, creativity and the stories of Skibbereen onto our streets.

Projects like Skibbereen’s Painted Past simply don't happen because one person has a good idea. They happen because people get behind that idea. Local businesses say yes. Artists give their creativity and time. Building owners offer their walls. Organisations collaborate. Funders invest. And gradually, something that belongs to an entire community begins to emerge.

Albany Fusion Home has been a pivotal part of that journey, and quite simply, we couldn't have achieved what we have over the past few years without their support.

We're also sharing a little glimpse behind the scenes from our recent filming day for the Airbnb Rural Tourism Fund, with Greg and Stephen from Blue Hue Productions capturing the people, places and stories behind the trail.

A huge thank you to everyone continuing to help us build Skibbereen’s Painted Past, including this year's supporters Airbnb and Embellish Home Interiors, our longstanding partners at Skibbereen Arts Festival, and, of course, the artists, businesses and people of Skibbereen who continue to make this project what it is.

When a community gets behind creativity, just look at what can happen.

🎨 Skibbereen’s stories are officially on the map!

We are delighted to officially launch the Skibbereen’s Painted Past trail maps AND our brand-new website!

What began with individual murals dotted throughout the town has grown into something much bigger - a public art trail bringing together art, heritage, local stories and the people who make Skibbereen what it is.

Pick up one of our beautiful new maps and wander through the streets and laneways of Skibbereen, discovering the murals along the way. Then head online to delve a little deeper - meet the artists, explore the artwork and uncover the stories and history hidden behind the walls.

🗺️ Maps are now available FREE from Skibbereen Tourist Office with more locations to follow.

📱 Explore the trail online at www.SkibbereenMurals.ie

This project has always been about community. From the artists who transformed our walls, to the local people who shared their memories and histories, the businesses who opened their doors and supported us, and everyone who helped bring the trail together - Skibbereen’s Painted Past belongs to the town.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far, including Mary Kate Forde, who brought all of those stories together through our beautiful new website.

Now there’s only one thing left to do...

Grab a map and go exploring! ❤️
