The Board of Sligo LEADER Partnership Company was delighted to welcome former EU Commissioner Ray MacSharry to a special event marking the 35th anniversary of the LEADER Programme. As Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ray MacSharry played a pivotal role in introducing the LEADER initiative, which has gone on to transform rural communities across Europe.

Also in attendance were Minister of State Frank Feighan and Deputy Eamonn Scanlon, who joined stakeholders and community representatives in recognising the lasting impact of the programme.

Chairperson of Sligo LEADER Partnership, Amanda McCloat, spoke about the importance of LEADER in supporting rural communities, local enterprises and community development projects throughout County Sligo for more than three decades.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the programme and its continued role in strengthening rural communities across the county.

As part of Refugee Week Ireland 2026, Sligo Integration Action, is hosting "A Day of Information, Learning & Connection" on Wednesday, 17 June 2026 at The Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo.

This free event is open to International Protection Applicants (IPAs) and Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) and will focus on understanding rights, accessing supports, building confidence, and connecting with others in the community.

The day will include:
