'Thirty-year warranty' sounds like one thing. It's usually two, and they're not the same. π
Product warranty covers the panel itself β manufacturing defects, delamination, junction box failure, the frame letting go. If the thing breaks, this is the one that replaces it.
Performance warranty covers output. Every panel degrades. The manufacturer guarantees it will still produce at least a stated percentage of its original rating at a given year β typically somewhere around 87β90% at year 25 or 30 on modern N-type panels. If it falls below the curve, that's a claim.
A headline number without saying which warranty it refers to is marketing, not information. Ask for both, in writing.
Where dual-glass comes in: instead of a polymer backsheet, the panel has glass on both faces. Backsheets are the component that ages worst β they yellow, they crack, they let moisture into the cell. Glass does none of those things. Dual-glass panels generally carry longer warranties for exactly that reason, and they're more tolerant of the damp, salt-laden air plenty of Irish sites have.
Three more questions worth asking about any warranty:
πΈ Does it cover labour, or only the part? A free panel you have to pay someone to fit is a partial warranty.
πΈ Who honours it if the installer is gone? Manufacturer warranties survive. Workmanship warranties don't.
Get the answers in writing before you sign anything. Any installer worth dealing with will hand them over without being asked twice.
