RJK Antiques was first established in 1949 by the late Patrick Keighery, but moved to it’s current Waterford location in 1968 where it is now run by IPAV member Rody Keighery and his wife Anne. In 1992 the auctioneer side to the business was first launched and is run from the 5000 sq ft. purpose built adjoining building at the same premises where regular Antiques and Furniture auctions are held as

well as the bi annual Contemporary Art sale. In addition to oue regular sales RJ Keighery Auctioneers can frequently be seen on site selling the contents of country houses, hotels, bars & restaurants and the Antique shop, RJK Antiques, is open to the public 6 days a week.

John Schwatschke 1943–2026

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our long-time friend, John Schwatschke, passed away yesterday.

We have so many wonderful memories of John and his weekly visits, always accompanied by his incredibly entertaining chats and stories. He lived a truly colourful and interesting life — and perhaps nothing summed him up quite like his unique method of delivering paintings to us, arriving by taxi, sometimes wet and sometimes dry!

John’s work was world-renowned, and he had a great following for his wonderful caricatures. His lifelong fascination with the human face and its expressions resulted in some 3,000 portraits and paintings, now recorded in the Schwatschke Archives.

His remarkable portrait work included sitting for and capturing figures such as President Éamon de Valera and the Duke of Edinburgh, among many others.

John was a hugely talented artist, a character in every sense, and a great friend. His work and talent will live on for generations to come.
