Delighted to be back on Ireland AM recently to talk about the EU Pay Transparency Directive - and the fact that Ireland has missed the June 7th deadline to introduce it.

At its heart, this is about tackling the gender pay gap and bringing more clarity (and fairness) to how pay is set.

For employers, some of the biggest changes discussed include being expected to share salary ranges upfront in recruitment, moving away from questions about a candidate’s current salary, and the reality that pay confidentiality clauses may no longer hold the same weight.

That’s a major cultural shift - and it’s one worth preparing for now, even while the exact start date remains unclear.

If salary ranges had to be published for every role in your organisation tomorrow, would you feel ready - and could you confidently explain the “why” behind your pay decisions?

If the answer is "no", and you’re not sure where to start, get in touch - this is exactly what we do at Woodview HRM. We’ll help you review your pay approach, spot the risk areas, and put a clear plan in place.

“What actually *is* a workplace investigation?”

Where there’s an allegation of misconduct - or a bullying/harassment complaint under your Dignity at Work procedures - an investigation is the process of establishing the facts.

An investigator will typically meet with the complainant, review any evidence, speak with witnesses (if relevant), and meet with the respondent to give them a fair opportunity to respond.

The principles of natural justice apply, and findings are made on the balance of probability (what is most likely to have happened), not “beyond reasonable doubt”.

Just as important: the investigator must be impartial and independent from the situation.

If you’re unsure whether a situation warrants an investigation - or how to proceed fairly and safely - Woodview HRM can help.

Most recruitment conversations focus on vacancies, KPIs, and placements.

But what if we focused more on people?

Miriam O'Hara shares why recruitment should never be about filling seats - it's about helping people build better lives.

When work takes up such a significant part of our lives, creating opportunities for personal growth, family time, financial progress, and fulfilment matters.

The organisations that remember this don't just attract great talent - they keep it.

Delighted to share a few highlights from the Eir Business Chambers Ireland Awards finalist event Louisa attended recently.

🎉 Woodview HRM has been selected as a finalist in the Best Consultancy Firm of the Year category, and it was an honour to be in the room with so many brilliant Irish businesses (and to feel that sense of momentum and community that comes with it).

A special mention to Sandra Murphy MPRII, who Louisa met on the day - also a finalist for In-house Marketing and Communications Team of the Year.

Congratulations to all the finalists - and thank you to Chambers Ireland and eir Business for a fantastic event - Team Woodview HRM are looking forward to the awards evening where the winners will be announced later this month. Wish us luck!

Louisa was delighted to be at the Irish League of Credit Unions Conference recently and to speak on the panel “Talent that Thrives - Empowering Your People to Succeed.”

Huge thanks to Cara Ryan for MC’ing so well, and to fellow panellists Paul McClatchie (Director, Engage People – recruitment specialists) and Conan Gallagher (CEO, Journi Credit Union) for a genuinely practical, engaging conversation.

It was a full house (standing room only), and the feedback afterwards was fantastic.

The session focused on what credit unions are navigating right now: employee engagement, leadership in a world of AI, retention, and preventing conflict during periods of change.

And a special personal highlight for Louisa: getting to share the event with Carla Nealon (Manorhamilton Credit Union) - one of the founding members there and, wonderfully, one of Louisa’s first-ever employers (Louisa used to babysit for her years ago!). A full-circle moment!

What if the career you're meant for isn't the one you started in?

In this episode of The Human Side of Business Podcast, Louisa Meehan speaks with Miriam O'Hara about:

👉 Navigating career pivots during uncertain times
👉 Moving from teaching to genetics to recruitment
👉 Ireland's growing demand for infrastructure talent
👉 Why workplace happiness isn't a luxury - it's essential
👉 Building careers around strengths, not just passions

Miriam's story is a powerful reminder that careers are rarely linear and that some of our greatest opportunities emerge from unexpected challenges.
