Domestic abuse doesn't have a "type".

It affects people from every profession, every background and every stage of life.

In this episode of the Human Side of Business podcast, Hayley Murphy (Outreach Co-ordinator with ANU Wicklow Domestic Violence Supports and Bray Women’s Refuge) challenges the stereotypes that often stop people from recognising abuse or asking for help.

The more we understand, the better equipped we are to support those around us.

Doing the right thing isn't always the easiest choice, but it's almost always the most impactful.

In this clip, Lorraine Bowen shares why great leadership is about looking beyond short-term decisions and considering the lasting impact they have on people, organisations and communities.

She also explains how staying curious - about people, learning and new opportunities - can help us create meaningful change and open doors we never expected.

Whether you're leading a business, supporting employees through change or building your own career, doing the right thing is one of the most powerful investments you can make.

"The human in the room is the most important person in any conversation."
-Karen Ronan

Technology is changing the way we work, but it doesn't change the importance of people.

Karen Ronan explains why AI and other tools should support us rather than replace the human connection at the heart of business.

The people in your organisation understand your customers, your culture and your community in ways technology can't replicate.

The tools may change, but the human side of business will always matter.

Woodview HRM's founder, Louisa Meehan, was recently on Newstalk’s The Hard Shoulder, joining Loretta Dignam (Founder & CEO of The Menopause Hub) to discuss hormonal health in the workplace and whether women are getting the support they need.

New research from The Menopause Hub found that 81% of women say hormonal health has impacted their working life, with 62% describing the impact as moderate or significant.

It’s a reminder that this isn’t a “personal issue” to be managed in silence. It’s a workplace conversation about support, flexibility, and better people practices.

👉 Question for you: what’s one practical change your workplace could make to better support hormonal health (including perimenopause and menopause)?

You don't have to be a natural networker!

In this clip, Karen Ronan shares how she once found networking incredibly difficult, despite being confident speaking on stage and in front of an audience.

Her experience led to her TEDx talk, From the Bathroom to the Boardroom, and taught her that networking isn't simply a personality trait. It's a skill that can be learned.

You don't have to be the biggest, bravest or most outgoing person in the room. You just need to practise, prepare and find the right support to help you grow.

Everyone deserves to have a place in the room.

Coercive control is now against the law in Ireland - but it’s still something we’re all learning how to recognise, evidence, and respond to in practice.

In this clip from The Human Side of Business Podcast, Hayley Murphy explains why coercive control can be so difficult to “prove” (for victims, for practitioners, for An Garda Síochána, and for the courts) and what that means for workplaces trying to do the right thing.

The answer isn’t to be perfect; it’s to raise awareness, start the conversation, and make support visible.

If you’re an employer or manager, this episode is a must-listen.
