Last night at 11:45 PM, we witnessed pure magic.

Once a year, guided by an ancient biological clock and synchronized with remarkable precision, Acropora corals release millions of eggs and s***m into the water at the exact same moment, beginning the next generation of the reef.

No matter how many times we prepare for it, witnessing a spawning event never ceases to amaze us. It reminds us why we do what we do.

At V-Corals, we're working to develop resilient corals that can help reefs survive and thrive in a changing world. Last night's spawning event brought us one step closer to that goal, and to an exciting development that we hope to share with you soon.

What you’re seeing might look delicate… but it’s actually a defense system.

Corals may appear solid and still, almost like rock, but hidden within their tissue are soft, living tentacles that can extend outward in seconds.

These tentacles are not just beautiful.
They are armed and active, used to protect the coral from nearby threats and competing neighbors.

Unlike fish or other reef creatures, corals can’t move away.
So instead, they’ve evolved a different strategy, they defend their space.

What looks like gentle movement in the water…
is actually a coral standing its ground.
