I have been taking pictures ever since I was given my Kodak Instamatic for my 7th birthday. If there was something to be photographed, I would take it. I progressed to "proper" photography at college, learning the fundamentals, how to use the camera, develop and process, lighting and studio work under the guidance of Stak who used to do the "Guiness" ads with the Toucan. I realized then that Colle
ge press work was the way in.. I started covering concerts, theatre and sports events, averaging at least four events a week. What great way for a Student to see and do things for free!! Problem was this business is cutthroat, late nights processing pictures and getting them to Fleet Street for deadlines, making appointments to meet A & R guys at record companies, fighting for payments, and of course fitting in my studying. I worked with and for the Music Press and record companies and theatres, but time moved on and gradually digital came to power, and everyone is now a photographer. Anyone can take a picture. Everyone should take pictures, they are your memories embodied on a digital stick. But It's how the picture is taken, how you visualise it, how you control the element of the image, that actually makes the picture. I like to photograph everything, I carry the camera everywhere, because you never know just when that special picture will be there, and if you miss it, you may never have the chance to take it again. It becomes an extension of your eyes, something you can have brief control of. I try to capture that moment, and if you would like me to capture yours, just contact me. :)
