I am delighted to say hi from Beijing! Yes, I made it — after some uncertainty on my side just a few hours before my scheduled flight. Life is challenging...

And after just a few hours, I can say I am speechless. All these visible cultural differences. Technology is everywhere, in all details.
But it’s the invisible ones that stay with me.

I’ve been strolling in a park a few minutes from my hotel. Trees. Families having fun. People playing games, music, singing...
People waving, inviting me closer, trying to communicate through warm smiles. Not something I have not seen before. And yet, it feels completely different.

A space made of invisible differences. Quiet feelings. Meaningful moments. Hard to name. Impossible to fully explain. Like discovering another dimension.

So I stop trying to define it. I let it move. I let go.
It is not about understanding or controlling everything. It is about choosing to stay connected. Wherever that connection takes me to.

On Monday, our IMO conference starts. We will be talking about horizontal leadership — about creating spaces, another dimension, in organisations where people feel at home. Safe to share uncertainties, differences, conflicts, creative ideas. Spaces where people feel truly listened to, and free to share their questions — their real questions.

Tomorrow evening, I begin my journey to Beijing to join my colleagues from around the world for our annual meeting at the IMO conference on the theme of Horizontal Leadership. Two months ago, when I bought my plane ticket, I was really excited and started planning everything in my head! A month later, uncertainty began to creep in: will I be able to travel... but I am naturally optimistic, so I continued to manage the situation as usual. Two weeks ago, bam, everything fell apart. The certainty vanished: this year, I will not visit China: ticket canceled... Then once again, uncertainty... 50% chance of attending this event, and I remain optimistic. Today, the day before my departure, I wish I could say I have a 100% chance, but we simply cannot ignore uncertainty. In fact, uncertainty is always there, even in moments that seem the most secure, in our daily routines. The very idea of uncertainty destabilizes us, immobilizes us, frightens us, and can take on thousands of forms... So we develop tools, well-oiled mechanisms, we plan to control this idea of uncertainty. We manage our lives. We 'erase' uncertainty. But what if from the very beginning, we embraced this uncertainty, welcomed it with open arms, along with its surprises, creativity, and diversity? What if we created a space for this uncertainty and trusted what may happen that we do not see today? Living with uncertainty can become a driving force for development, a discovery of hidden potentials. Tomorrow, if I do not leave, I will be ready; I have shared all the material for my workshops with my colleagues who can facilitate them in my place. I have taken my responsibilities to ensure I can be replaced if necessary in certain activities I am supposed to manage. Most importantly, I have benefited from multiple exchanges with my colleagues worldwide in preparation for the conference, and I am already rich from that experience. I could have cancelled my participation from the beginning and withdraw myself to bring certainty: I am not travelling. But instead I have embraced uncertainty, and it has not overwhelmed me; it has helped me grow. My colleagues will also have to improvise to create a new reality with the new situation. Knowing how to improvise is an essential tool that allows leaders to fully leverage this uncertainty. With that, see you soon in Beijing!

האם לי יש קונפליקט או לקונפליקט יש אותי?

משפט גאוני, מתוך הספר של פרידריך גלאזל (יועץ ארגוני אוסטרי). בעיני זהו המפתח לעבודה בסיטואציה של קונפליקט – להיות מסוגל להגיד – אני (לרוב זה אנחנו) בקונפליקט. איתם. יש כאן צד שני, ואנחנו בסיטואציה של קונפליקט.
זה מעבר קשה. כי עד לפני רגע לא היה שום קונפליקט. אני יודע שאני צודק, והוא – אשם, מושחת, חצה קו אדום וכולי וכולי.
אם הצלחנו להפנים שיש כאן קונפליקט ("יש לי קונפליקט") יצאנו מהמצב הקודם ("לקונפליקט יש אותי" – כלומר הוא אוחז בי ואני בכלל לא מודע לזה).

בהשתלמות "מנהיגות אופקית" נחקור את נושא הקונפליקטים יחד עם עוד מגוון נושאים נוספים מעולם החברתי, ארגונים וקהילות.
כל המשתתפים מוזמנים גם להביא את השאלות מהארגונים שלהם כדי ליצור תוך כדי הסדנה תמיכה ומענה.

השבוע מתקיים כנס IMO בבוקרשט (רומניה),
IMO זו קהילה של חברים הפועלים בתחום הארגוני חברתי,
השנה מתווספת המדינה ה 11 (ספרד).

תרגיל מוצלח בכנס IMO
יכול לשמש לחקירה קבוצתית (כמעט) בכל נושא
אנחנו חקרנו בתרגיל את IMO כארגון וקהילה,
בתרגיל מספר שלבים בהם משתמים בכל מני חפצים, חלק מראש וחלק נאספו בסביבה,
ובתהליך מובנה, חלקו בשתיקה, חלקו מילולי, מגיעים לתובנות מפתיעות,
אישיות וקבוצתיות, תוך פעילות של ראש ולב.
מעניין ומרגש לראות איך בתרגיל קצר היה חיבור לפנימי ולגבוה,
באישי ובקהילתי,
וממנו גם נגזרו בהמשך פעולות ועשייה לשנה הבאה.
