How Sharing a Product Marketing Idea with a YouTube Legend Won Me a Patch Cap 🧢
Simone Giertz—creator, inventor, and founder of Yetch.Studio —has built a brand that’s smart, weird, and wildly lovable.
With 2M+ YouTube subscribers, 695K+ Instagram followers, a slew of sponsorships, and even a brain tumor removal, she’s launched inventions that are equal parts art and engineering.
But even the most successful entrepreneurs have tough moments.
A few days ago, Simone posted an Instagram reel expressing frustration that her latest product—the Patch Cap—wasn’t selling as well as expected, and asked her followers for help troubleshooting.
As a fellow entrepreneur and product marketer, I left a long comment with some product marketing advice—part of which suggested she lean into the weirdness and charm that built her following and turn her go-to-market challenge into a fun, engaging, customer-focused story, with a poll, a game, or a prize.
Less than 24 hours later, Simone posted a follow-up reel with a call to action:
“What would you put on it? Comment in the next 24 hours & I’ll give a free hat to my favorite answer!”
📈The reel went viral:
💥 370K+ views, 17K+ likes, and nearly 1K comments on Instagram— and counting.
💥340K+ views, 12K likes, and 1,375 comments on YouTube— and counting.
Of course, I joined the fun, shared a few ideas… and ended up winning a Patch Cap! 😄
💡 Key takeaways from this unexpectedly awesome experience:
1. 🏆 Suggest a founder to run a contest—you might just win a cool prize 😉
2. ❤ Be kind and constructive. Even the greatest entrepreneurs have moments of doubt. Sometimes a little product marketing spark is all it takes to shift the narrative.
3. 🧢 And yes—the innovative cap is already on its way to me. The reason I (and others) will wear it isn’t just because it solves a problem, but because it signals that we’re creators who value innovation. What does your product say about your customers?
