Paramount Mold & Water Damage Solutions

Paramount Mold & Water Damage Solutions Israel's only one stop shop for water damage and mold issues. [email protected]

I started Paramount Paints after making aliyah because I saw how great the need was for professional, courteous, and clean home services. After living in Israel for 4 years I had heard and seen enough poor work. Such seemingly simple and obvious work traits such as cleanliness and attention to detail were overlooked by the majority of painters and renovators. We first began as a simple painting co

mpany but have expanded our services to include electric work, carpentry, custom stenciling, handyman work and small renovations. We also create tailor-made solutions for leaks, mold, and condensation issues that will leave your home looking and feeling brand new! At Paramount Paints, we don't just slap some paint on the wall, we provide professional advice to help you discover the optimum design for your home. Whether it's using color combinations to create a more open space, or to offer a professional opinion on a design decision, we're here to help.

Happy Chanukah to everyone.

Does Bleach Kill Mold?

Although the active ingredient in bleach, sodium hypochlorite, is the main ingredient in many mold removal products, there are many reasons to use alternatives to chlorine bleach when killing mold.

One reason is that bleach cannot completely kill mold growing in porous materials. The chlorine in bleach cannot pe*****te into porous surfaces such as drywall or wood. The chlorine is left on the surface of porous materials and only the water component of the bleach is absorbed into the material, providing more moisture for the mold to feed on.

Some of the mold on the surface might be killed but the roots of the mold are left intact meaning the mold soon returns, leaving you in a cycle of repeated bleaching. Perhaps this is why some people believe that spraying bleach on mold doesn't affect it but instead just bleaches its color so you can no longer see it.

Another disadvantage of bleach is that it can damage the materials it's used on as it is a harsh, corrosive chemical. Chlorine bleach also gives off harsh fumes and it even produces toxic gas when mixed with ammonia. There are safer alternatives such as borax or vinegar which don't produce dangerous fumes or leave behind toxic residue. For these reasons try to avoid using bleach and if you must use it, only use it on non-porous surfaces.

Here are 10 steps to help you prevent water damage this winter

10 Commandments of
Water Damage Prevention!!

The Vast Majority of homes in Israel suffer from either mold or water damage. Follow these 10 easy preventative measures to save yourself time, money, and massive headaches when buying or selling a home.

Porch Drain - Have a professional make sure that the drains are not clogged, and are the correct size (width and circumference) for drainage, and have filters that will prevent the entry of fallen leaves or other debris that may cause blockages.

Window Caulking- Windows must be sealed correctly with caulk to prevent water seepage into the home. Look at the joint area between the window frame and wall, if it is deteriorated it ain’t doing its job.

Inspection - It’s best to know what areas are developing moisture buildup or are highly likely to eventually do so.

Joint Sealant - Bathroom - All showers and bathtubs should be sealed with a strong anti-mold sealant to prevent water buildup along the walls.

Joint Sealant - Kitchen - All countertops should be sealed to prevent water seeping behind cabinetry (irreparable damage to woodwork is common when this isn’t done properly).

Bathroom Ceilings - Bathroom ceilings should be painted with high quality water-resistant anti-mold paint to prevent mold issues from condensation.

Laundry Rooms - Laundry rooms are high humidity areas that must be painted with anti-mold paint to prevent mold from condensation.

External Wall Check - Have a professional Check for signs of pressure cracks, gaps in stones, and between stones that may be letting in water.

External Wall Sealant - Each stone home should ideally be sealed with water repellent every 3-5 years to prevent buildup of moisture on the inside causing mold-inducing humidity.

Home Insurance - If you are buying a home then find a reputable insurance company, used by people that you know personally and that can vouch for their service.

Air Conditioners - Air conditioners can be notorious for leaking water. Make sure they are not by inspecting the surrounding area where the drainage pipe and AC unit connects to the wall for any wetness. It is also common that AC unit installer will leave gaping holes in the external walls when fitting in the new AC. It unfortunate and happens very often. Check the external walls for holes that may let moisture into the home.

External Walls - Peeling paint and bubbling on the enclosing walls of the home are a sign of moisture coming in through the outside so be aware!

Roof and Ceiling - Peeling paint and bubbling on your ceiling are often a sign that moisture is entering via your roof or a mirpeset above.
Check the substrate of you roof in order to see if it is in good condition. If you find green growth, air bubbles or parts of the substrate coming off you know that these are areas where water may enter into your roof.
