Shraavan Maas Upavaas

Upavaas: These are two Sanskrit words Upa (near by) and Vaas (to reside). Thus, Upavaas is to stay near by.

Generally, we do Upavaas to stay focused on the path that we want to achieve rather than getting distracted from the world entities.

With regards to Shraavan Maas, we do Upavaas to stay focused and connected to our lord/our idol Shiva. Also, during monsoon the human digestive system is not capable enough to digest food which is why people do Upavaas the whole month of Shraavan.

Significance of Upvaas (Fasting):
- Biological benefits: Strengthens your digestive system.
- Spiritual benefits: Focuses your mind to travel in a single direction.

- In simple terms it is a particular vibration which is present all over the universe.

1. AUM represents the 3 Fold Division of Time

U – is the dream state

M – is the state of deep sleep

At the end of AUM is a pause, a silence. This represents the state known as Turiya, or Infinite Consciousness

- The symbol OM visually consists of three curves, one semicircle, and a dot.

- The large bottom curve symbolizes the waking state, A.

- The middle curve signifies the dream state, U.
