DYNAPAR QPS is a novel and world’s first transdermal preparation of diclofenac which provides excellent pain relief after topical application. DYNAPAR QPS is manufactured using non aqueous and non volatile solvents which help enhancing pe*******on of the drug across the skin. Increased pe*******on of diclofenac from DYNAPAR QPS can provide better efficacy compared to conventional diclofenac gel/oi
ntments. It reduces need of oral uptake of NSAIDs and avoids adverse events associated with oral NSAIDs. QPS base:
The excipients and its proportions in
QPS base were optimized after a series
of pharmacokinetic studies. The
optimized formulation provides
adequate transdermal pe*******on. When applied on the skin, the base gets
absorbed into the skin and thereby
carries the drug through the barrier of
the Stratum Corneum. The base of QPS is non-aqueous yet can be washed away with water. Further, the base is non-volatile, non-irritant, emollient and non-staining. These unique characteristics of the QPS base provide a variety of advantages
discussed below. Non-aqueous hydrating base:
The solvents used to prepare the QPS base are non-aqueous and have a hydrating effect on the skin. The base promotes hydration, therefore, prevents dryness of skin at the site of application. QPS base, being nonaqueous,
passes through the inter-cellular lipid matrix, thereby providing enhanced pe*******on. Non-volatile solvents:
Being non volatile, the QPS base does not evaporate upon application. It quickly starts penetrating through the skin. A typical application will get completely absorbed within 8-10 minutes depending on the amount applied
and thickness of the skin. Moreover, non-volatile solvents are considered safe for patients suffering from allergic rhinitis as it does not evaporate after application. Non-staining:
QPS base is water washable and does not stain clothes or the skin. Emollient:
The solvents used to prepare the QPS base are emollient in nature. They are selected carefully and do not cause irritation or harmful effects to the skin. It can be repeatedly applied over the affected area for a longer period of time
without causing dryness of skin. Advantages of QPS base over gels:
Topically applied gels of NSAIDs do not provide adequate musculoskeletal pain relief since they are not able to effectively pe*****te the barrier of the Stratum Corneum. The non-aqueous solvents of QPS base enable quick pe*******on of the drug into underlying tissues ensuring optimum concentration. Moreover, being a spray (metered dose), QPS will facilitate
“Hands Free” application, which will improve patient compliance. Advantages of QPS base over aerosol sprays:
Aerosols of diclofenac are manufactured using non-aqueous solvents which are volatile in nature. Hence, after application, the solvents evaporate rapidly and a large amount of the drug dissolved therein crystallizes on the skin. This leads to compromised transdermal pe*******on of the drug. QPS is manufactured using non-aqueous and non-volatile solvents which ensure the optimum pe*******on of the drug in the underlying tissues, providing maximum benefits to the patients.
