- How To Fix The Ownership Gap?

The fastest way to kill ownership on your team?
Tell them to “use their judgment”
It sounds empowering
It isn’t
You just handed them a blank map with no destination
In 30 years of Army command
I never once briefed a mission by saying “use your judgment”
We gave commander’s intent -
“The exact outcome required & why it mattered
Then got out of the way on the how”

I see the same failure pattern in fast-scaling startups
Founders confuse “I trust you” with “I told you what winning looks like”
Those are not the same sentence
and
The gap between them is where ex*****on dies

Here’s the fix I install in every 90-day engagement:
1. State the outcome in one sentence a new hire could repeat back
2. State the why (the intent) - so your team can improvise when the plan breaks
3. Get out of the room
If you’re still explaining the how
You didn’t delegate - you delayed
It’s usually the single fastest change founders see
In how quickly their team moves without them

What’s the one sentence your team needs to hear from you today to move without asking?
Drop it in the comments - I’ll reply to a few & tell you what’s missing

I commanded soldiers for 20 years

Nothing prepared me for my first board meeting

I thought leadership was leadership
I was wrong

Here are 5 things I wish someone had told me before I left the Army for business 👇

1️⃣ Authority doesn’t equal influence
In the Army, rank earns you authority instantly
In business, people follow because they trust your vision - not your title.

2️⃣ Decisions move faster than consensus
Military operations run on clarity of command
Business runs on alignment
The best idea still loses if the room isn’t with you

3️⃣ Ex*****on isn’t enough
I believed hard work would speak for itself. It doesn’t - visibility multiplies capability

4️⃣ Your network becomes your new unit
Outside the uniform, your organisation stops providing the structure
Mentors, investors, clients & partners become your force multiplier

5️⃣ Reinvention is the toughest mission. Leaving the Army isn’t losing your identity - it’s expanding it
The discipline, resilience & integrity stay
Only the battlefield changes

Which lesson surprised you the most?

🚀 Transforming Space Forever

For decades, India’s orbital launches have depended on a single launch site - Sriharikota.

Project VEDA has the potential to change that.

If successfully realised, a mobile satellite launch platform would provide India with unprecedented operational flexibility by enabling launches from multiple locations based on mission requirements rather than fixed infrastructure.

The implications extend far beyond convenience.

A mobile launch capability can enhance resilience against weather disruptions, reduce dependence on a single launch complex, improve responsiveness for time-sensitive missions, lower infrastructure costs, and strengthen India’s strategic autonomy in the increasingly contested space domain.

As space becomes central to national security, communications, navigation, disaster response, and intelligence, the ability to launch satellites rapidly from dispersed locations could become a significant strategic advantage.

While Project VEDA is still under development and many technical details remain to be officially confirmed, it reflects the broader direction of India’s efforts to build resilient, indigenous, and operationally flexible space capabilities.

The future of space power may not be tied to a single launch pad - it may be wherever the mission demands.

Force Multipliers - Transforming Space Forever.

What impact do you think mobile launch systems could have on India’s future space and defence capabilities?

A great product can still fail
A credible product gets trusted

That was the central message of my keynote at EQDC, Gandhinagar
where I had the privilege of addressing an inspiring audience
Comprising of government officials, industry experts, chambers of commerce, associations, MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs

My talk was titled “Build What Matters”

Here are the 5 lessons I left the audience with:

✅ 1. Solve a real problem - not an imaginary one
Innovation begins with customer pain, not technology

✅ 2. Trust is the ultimate competitive advantage
Certifications, quality standards, and compliance don’t slow growth - they accelerate adoption

✅ 3. Build credibility before you build scale
Markets reward businesses that are reliable, secure & consistent

✅ 4. Don’t chase funding. Chase validation
Customers, certifications & market acceptance speak louder than pitch decks

✅ 5. Build for impact, not just valuation
Companies that endure create value for customers, society & the nation

The future belongs to founders who don’t just build products - they build trust

A sincere thank you to EQDC for bringing together an ecosystem committed to strengthening India’s innovation & manufacturing landscape

Which of these five lessons resonates most with your entrepreneurial journey?

₹370 for biryani
And he believed that bought him consent

What happened at that comedy show was disturbing
Not just because one man openly described ignoring a woman’s repeated refusal
But because an entire room laughed, clapped, and encouraged it

The uncomfortable truth is this:

Harmful beliefs don’t become dangerous when they are spoken

They become dangerous when they are accepted

A woman’s “No” is not a negotiation
It is not a challenge
It is not a starting point for persuasion

It is a boundary

The incident wasn’t about a comedian, a microphone, or a stag

It was about a mindset that has been normalised for far too long

A mindset that survives because too many people stay silent
when it appears as a joke, a casual comment, or “harmless” entertainment.

Changing one person is not enough We must challenge the belief itself

What do you think is the bigger problem: the person who said it, or the crowd that applauded it?
