Attended the 2nd International Arboriculture Conference in India, hosted in Mumbai.
met some amazing people!
Great to see the presentations from various experts from various fields, not only arboriculture, showcasing both the specific knowledge and the transdisciplinary aspects required to integrate arboriculture into implementable actions.
Also great to see the interest of numerous students, institutions, government sectors, administrative sectors, NGOs and commercial entities.
Now how do we bridge the data, social, economic, development requirements? Bit by bit through education, phased projects, citizen engagement.

Fire damage to trees. How bad is it? Depends how close and intense it is but in some cases it can kill a tree. In this case it has killed half the stem which, if left as is, would have likely led to the death of the tree. We are now making an effort to save it. This means propping it and hindering the decay process of the dead wood to prevent the stem from failing and improving ground conditions to make water and nutrients more easily available based on biological and chemical soil tests.

So a bit of prevention could have saved a lot of time, effort and expense. This is just one of the aspects I mention in urban tree management. What have you seen done to a tree which could have easily been avoided?

I have started to upload the arboriculture related courses, that I was teaching at the Auroville Botanical Gardens, to Udemy to make them more accessible to people. It is part of the series to learn about different aspects of arboriculture for aspiring arborists. There is currently a free course called "What is a tree?" and a paid one on urban tree planting (urban because I believe it to be the hardest place to plant trees)....
