Are you checking on your Performance?
I remembered one story, it goes like this…There was once a little boy who stood by a shop counter, looking at a public telephone that was just out of his reach. Determined, he found a small container nearby, stood on it, and picked up the phone. He dialed a number, and when someone answered on the other end, he began to speak sincerely.
The boy offered his services to maintain the person’s lawn, explaining how good he was at the job. He tried to convince the person by promising extra benefits at no additional cost. When that didn’t work, he thought for a moment and then offered to work without taking any weekly leave, showing how desperately he wanted the job. Despite all his efforts, the person on the other end wasn’t convinced.
The boy quietly hung up the phone, and the shopkeeper, who had been listening to the entire conversation, felt sympathy. He approached the boy and said, “It seems like you really need a job. I can offer you a job as an assistant here at my shop.”
To the shopkeeper’s surprise, the boy looked up with a big smile and said, “Thank you so much, sir, but I already have a job maintaining lawns!”
Puzzled, the shopkeeper asked, “Then why were you calling and asking for another job?”
The boy smiled and replied, “I was just checking my performance. The lady I called is my current customer. I wanted to see if she was happy with my work or if there was anything I could do better, but I am happy that after offering so many benefits also she was not ready to change my services, which means I am performing well”
This story reminds us that true performance isn’t just about doing our job; it’s about continually striving to improve and ensuring that our efforts meet the highest standards. Even when things seem perfect, there’s always room to grow and do better...
