What Fashion Taught Me About Business

The fashion industry taught me 5 business lessons that no MBA would:

1. Trends are noise. Classics are strategy. Every season brings a new “it” colour. But a well-cut blazer never goes out of style. Same with business fundamentals ,relationships, quality, trust. They never go out of fashion.

2. Presentation is not vanity. It’s communication. How you show up your brand, your packaging, your communication tells the market who you are before you speak.

3. Your customer’s aspiration is your brief. In fashion, you don’t sell clothes. You sell identity. In business, you don’t sell products. You sell transformation.

4. Collections don’t succeed alone, teams do. Behind every stunning runway show is 200 people nobody names. Build your team like it’s your most important collection.

5. The fit matters more than the label. The right business model for someone else may not fit you. Know your fit.

The Permission Problem

Nobody gave me permission to start.

Not when I launched my first business. Not when I started a magazine. Not when I started Thincubator. Not when I built a podcast. Not when I entered the fragrance world.
I waited for permission for a long time.

Permission from my family. Permission from the market. Permission from “the right time.”

Then I realized something:
Permission is something you give yourself.

There is no committee that approves your readiness. No certificate that says you’re qualified to build. No right moment that arrives like a notification.
You decide. You start. You figure it out as you go.

To every woman reading this who is waiting for the right moment to start her business:

The moment is now. You are ready enough. Start before you feel ready.
Tag a woman who needs to hear this today. 🙏
